Workgroup Won't Allow Second Computer's Access

For some reason, one of the two computers on my home network (workgroup) no longer allows the other computer to access its folders. The computer can see the other comptuer's folders, but is denied access to read and write. I don't get it. I haven't made any changes lately, except for upgrading AVG anti-virus. The computer that won't allow access is still able to see, and read and write to the other computer's folders. Internet works perfectly with both comptuers.

Setup:

Both boxes listed in signature.
Cable modem direct to D-Link four-port router.

I turned off Microsoft firewall (Service Pack 2) on both computers. I ran Network Wizard twice on each system. Again, both computers see all the folders on each other that are designated for sharing. File and print sharing is enabled on both machines. Just that one computer that will not open it's folders for the other computer.

Error message when I try:
"[computer name]\[selected drive] is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Not enough server storage is available to process this command."

    Leo,

Im am assuming you have specifically shared a folder on one machine for the other to see?? :)

If you have, right click on it and check it's sharing tab. Make sure that EVERYONE (a security usergroup default) is set for read/write permissions (this is the share) :)

All folder settings (those designated for sharing) are not changed from before the one computer started refusing sharing. I can't find anything that is changed.

I tried another solution: turned off AVG on the affected computer and all related AVG processes. No change. Hmm, can't figure this one out. I can't believe it's hardware; it would seem that with a hardware problem I wouldn't even be able to see the folders on the other computer...would I?

All shared folders on both computers have the identical settings: 1) "Share this folder on the network" and, 2) "Allow network users to change my files"
Not enough server storage is available to process this command.
What could that be? This is just a simple two-computer workgroup for file and internet sharing.

I've run into this trying to share some stuff publicly on the network here, on Windows 2000. Basically the solution was to give everyone full 'sharing' access (Full Control) to every share, and set the permissions I wanted to on the Permissions section (NTFS permissions).

    Also a pair of questions.
    1) What is the OS of computer 2 in your sig?
    2) Did this sharing work before (if yes what changed)?

P.S. Somehow I managed to realize how to fix my printer while thinking about this one. It stopped working when I was playing around with the sharing settings as I described above. Sweet!

I have the same problem on my home network. The laptop can see all other computers but cannot access drives, giving the same message you get. All other computers can access and modify all other computers' data, so sharing is set for 'full' all around.

You haven't deleted a user account by any chance?

OK, I found the problem...and fixed it! Yay, me. (I'm so proud!)

    This is it: IRPStackSize
If you created the IRPStackSize value using the procedure described in step 4, the default value is 15. It is recommended that you increase the value by 3. Therefore, if the previous value was 11, type 14, and then click OK.
And that's exactly what I did - increased stack size by three settings. It was an instant fix after reboot.

Best I can tell, my upgrade on the affected computer (computer that would allow folder viewing, but not access) to AVG 7.0 was the culprit. I had not made any changes to the other computer's AV - Norton. Tracing the problem back, I recall that the last time I transferred files across the network was one I copied AVG 7.0.exe to the affected computer. No other upgrades/changes were made on the affected computer.

From the Microsoft Help and Support article:
Antivirus software may cause Event ID 2011
No kidding! MS this time hit the problem square on the head. I looked in the affected computer's Event Viewer; sure enough - full of '2011' errors.

Ah ha, Like I have said, everything Norton that has gone in my PC has been taken out. It has always caused me more problems than it fixed. Glad you found it. :)

No, Mr. Bothered. The affected computer was (and is) running AVG! This problem happened evidently right after upgrading the existing AVG to AVG v. 7.0.

(A little off topic here... But anyway, when my present NAV expires, I'll retain my Norton Systemworks, but will put AVG on the other computer as well. Or that other freeware AV Thrax was recommending.)
