SP2 Information Bar

edited December 2004 in Science & Tech
Can someone please help me with removing the information bar that usually shows up in Internet Explorer. I got Windows XP SP2(unfortunately). I want to completely remove it from my computer. Its showing up in my Windows Media Player when I try to access the RADIO link and it will not go away. Yeah, I know its supposed to keep the same settings as Internet Explorer, but its just all jacked up.

If you mean the built in pop-up blocker information bar, just right-click on the bar the next time it comes up, you will have options to turn on or off the pop-up blocker, to turn on or off the information bar for pop-ups,

I tried that already. When I open my Internet Explorer and go to TOOLS, down to where it says POP-UP BLOCKER, I see that I have already turned off the Information Bar in my settings. Those settings are supposed to apply to Windows Media Player, Internet Explorer, and Outlook E-mail, but obviously my computer is acting a little differently. I just wanna know how to COMPLETELY remove it from my comp.

Who would not want the popup blocker in IE 6 SP2? It keeps you from getting stuff you don't want, and you can tell it to allow popups from that site anyway.

No Dan, he wants the blocker (I think) just not the silly bar the notifies the user what is happening. Well, I shouldn't say "silly"; just doesn't want the nuisance of another bar at the top of the browser.

That's right Leonardo, I want to keep the pop-up blocker, but desperately want to rid my comp of that awful information bar that likes to drop down from underneath the address bar in IE and also in Windows Media. It keeps blocking me from seeing the RADIO page in Windows Media Player(even after I select ALLOW BLOCKED CONTENT from the drop down Information Bar)I'll paste my screen to show you. I have all the necessary system req. that it shows on the page.
P.S. Are you in the AF danball1976?

By going into "Pop-up blocker settings" in Internet Options, you can stop the information bar from being displayed when IE blocks a pop-up, however the above screenshot you posted shows the information bar appearing because of an active content control block. The only way I believe to stop that from happening is by enabling all active content to be allowed to run. However, I'm not sure you can do that, and even if you can I can't recommended that as it would seriously put your computer at risk from malicious content.

I don't think currently there is a way to fully turn off the information bar.

I'm pretty sure that there is a way to remove it from my computer entirely. I think it has something to do with my registry editor. However, I don't know how to get to it. Do you know how?

I've turned off the notice by going into the settings and telling it not to notify me visually (just with the sound)

Yes--I have tried that already. That will work for me in IE but it still shows up in the Media Player as shown above. I'm starting to think that this is impossible.

Hey OLSON2K I finally got the info bar to stop popping up on me. Just follow the directions in folder order that is posted by wanggen on 11-04 :

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER --> Software --> Microsoft --> Windows --> CurrentVersion --> Internet Settings--> ZoneMap --> ProtocolDefaults

change the key (http) from 0 to 3
How to change the key: Right-Click on http in the right pane, Click on Modify, Change value data from 0 to 3.

The Information Bar has finally been defeated! Oh yeah, you will find that you can now access Hotmail, Ebay, or any other site that uses Java or runs active content.
I'll try it out later, and presuming it works I'll put it up in the Tweaks and Tricks Thread. Nice one.

    Cheers

I tried to try it out, but that (http) value is already set to '3' on all my rigs. I tried changing it from '3' to '0' and it had no effect.

Did you go to your pop-up blocker settings and make sure the box is not checked that says: Show information bar when a pop-up is blocked?

Yes, try it. Go into Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Pop-up blocker -> Pop-up blocker settings -> and make sure the box is not checked that says "Show information bar when a pop-up is blocked."
