Just had a look at Team stats on EO stats page and it looks like we have a total of 1,107 users but only 215 are active  :bawling: .

Get those folding boxes back online.

Hey Thrax, what is that little brown stuffed animal in your avatar? I've seen pictures of them in other places. I think my niece would like one for her birthday.

Looks like you just changed your avatar while I was writing this. Well, what was it?

A "Domo Kun" - it's a Japanese character whose name translates to something like "Mr. Thank You."

I think Thrax's avatar is set to randomize among a bunch of choices.

It's a funny thing, back when we were Icrontic we hit an average of about 290 active folders and never able to break 300 and stay there. 5 people would join up and 5 would stop folding, it went like clockwork. Now, we can't seem to stay above 230 at any one time and has been like that since S-M was born. We get 5 new members and another 5 stop folding, we just can't seem to grow in active membership.

This page will help explain things... http://short-media.com/folding.php?v=projectinfo

But basically, we donate our computer(s) resources to running a small peice of software to help figure out what goes wrong in the folding process of our cells that leads to diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease and Mad Cow to name a few. We here at S-M fold together submitting our work collectively under the Team Short-Media name. It's a humanitarian project based out of Stanford University.

Just let us know if you need more input. :)

    no, it wont harm anything

    go here
    http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/folding/download.html
download the No Nonsense Text Console.
create a new folder somehwere called folding, put this inside it

when you run it, pick your username
    put 93 for teamnumber
the very next question asks if you want to start is as a service. say yes, then fill the rest out (no,no,no,yes-only if you have 512mb+ of memory,no) close it and reboot. check your taskmanager (ctrl-alt-del) after a minute and see if your cpu is running at 100%. if it is, then folding is doing its job

It it wont hurt anything. It's been said but i like pointing it out. 100% cpu usage might seem bad but it isn't if everything is ok and there wont be any slowing down of your rig. Besides who wouldn't want to compete in a friendly game that helps science along in the process. :):fold:

It's saying "do you want the program to ask before getting a work unit from the server" - you should just say "no" to that one, which I think is the default answer...

    I guess I need a walh through...just in case I don't mess up
ok now it's asking me if I want to use Internet Explorer? yes or no?

just answer the default answers on all of them (just hit enter through all the responses)
Make sure you put 93 as the team # and you're all set :)

I've been wanting to run as a service but haven't been able to figure it out. I'm not getting this question/option to run as a service when I try to install the console version.

With Console version 5 and up, it's in the config - "Do you want to install and run F@H as a service the next time this computer starts up?"

Ok, I got it. Also, what's the best way to monitor progress this way? I've always used the graphical client.

I would like to run as a service on my 98 machines also. Can it be done?

Surething. did it myself. do as normal with the console client and then use em3 to monitor it.

    Link for em3
    http://home.comcast.net/~wxdude1/emsite/index.html

Read it for instructions or just ask. It too has never been a problem for me. Stable as a rock.

The console version for 98 does not offer the option to run as a service in the setup. Can you run Console v5 on 98... or how do you set up to run as a sevice on 98?
