Optimal settings for MB

Hi I have an AMD 64 3200+ on a ASUS K8VSE Deluxe motherboard and it seems that it's not working at it's full potential. When I first installed WinXP Home on my system it booted up fast and didn't load anything slow but now it seems to take a little longer to boot XP and it sometimes hangs when loading programs. Do any of you know what the optimal settings would be for this motherboard? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Also i have 1GB RAM.

Just exactly how long ago did you install XP on it?

Well then it's time for a reinstall! ;D;D (I reinstall windows about once a month). Seriously, I suspect it's just that your system is bogged down because as you've used it you've installed programs and crap. I mean, my dual Athlon system boots a lot slower than my dual Xeon system. And it's not just because the Xeon system has 2GB of RAM vs. 1GB in the Athlon, and it's not just because the Xeons are 3.2GHz and thus slightly faster than the Athlons at 1.9. No, it's due, at least in part, to the fact that the Athlon system has a bunch of apps that load on startup (AIM, MSN, and a bunch of systray crap from ATi, Turtle Beach, Spybot, AVG, OpenOffice.org, and all sorts of other stuff. Basically, the system is slower because it hasn't been reinstalled since August whereas the Xeons were just reinstalled on Sunday. You might post a hijackthis log or something in the SVT forum, but unless you've been futzing around in the BIOS lately, I'm all but certain this is a software issue.

Rather than a full reinstall you might try just cleaning up.
    run your anti-spyware.
    uninstall unused programs.
    defrag hdd.

This might be enough to help you. Sometimes it is one application or driver that bogs down the entire system.
