I was searching around today for satellite higth spoeed internet and found Direcway. I would get the Internet only without the DirecTV. Does anyone know if this is any good? My dialup is super slow and I can't get DSL or cable around here. i usually only connect at around 7800 so anything is an improvevment but I was to make sure that it is worth the cost.

I had satellite for a while...

It has a high latency, so it's not gonna work well for gaming. Is it two-way or one-way satellite? Either one has excellent download speeds, but one-way uses a 56k modem for uploads, so yeah... uploads still suck.

better than 56k but not worth a **** vs cable or dsl. I had direcway i Dlok but anything over 300MB u had to use getright so it could resume the dl cause it always broke off. Surfing the net is ok not fast but faster than 56k and you cant play ANY online games.

It's better than a modem, but if you have any other broadband choice go for it. I am in the same boat as you, with no broadband choices except sat broadband and I've been on Direcway for around 1 1/2 years now. You have damn good download speeds but Direcway has a cap of around 170 meg/3 hours in daytime and around 270 meg/3 hours at night, called the "fair access policy" or fap. The upload speeds are just a little faster than dialup but for most people this isn't a big handicap. Also, like Gnome and others have said, the latency is pretty high so pretty much all online gaming is out. I'm using the DW4000 equipment and it's been pretty reliable, but I did have a problem with the uplink radio that's mounted on the feedhorn arm, but Direcway paid to fix that problem once I convinced them it was a damn hardware problem.

Hope this helps you out. :)
