    Let's try Trojan Hunter.

    http://www.trojanhunter.com/products/TrojanHunter.exe

Install it, check for updates, and let it get rid of everything it says is bad. If it finds the same virus try to determine the file name and where it is located and post that back here.

It found 9 infections, none of which had the ied.exe file that wont be removed. I'm scanning it once again, then I'm going to do an AVG scan, and tell you what that scan said.

I actually have 2 trojans left not one...my bad.

I'm not sure if this helps or not...but is this maybe where the viruses are located:

    C:\ied_s7m.cab:\ied.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\Kenny\dgt230.exe:\data\App\0\WebHelp\wu1345rd.exe

The status of these objects are "Infected, Embedded objects"

I'm not sure if thats helpful at all or what any of that means, but I figure it's worth telling you.

    :)

Find and delete these two files:

    C:\ied_s7m.cab
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\Kenny\dgt230.exe

You may have to boot into Safe Mode and show hidden files to see them. Once you delete them make sure to empty the recycle bin.

Run a new scan with AVG and Trojan Hunter.

I deleted those files in normal mode, then scanned with AVG and Trojan Hunter, and the both found nothing. I also posted a new HijackThis log...I'm going to reboot now and hopefully everything is all cleaned up.

Thank you so much for you help and patience, I wish there was some way to repay you. Thank you very very verrrry much. :D

I'm glad I could help you out.

The last thing you can do for me is install Spyware Blaster to keep from getting infected again and visit Windows Update and install all critical updates for your computer. Links for both are below.

I did both of what you said, and I'm not sure if this is related or not, but after the windows update, my internet is going extremely slow. Could that be from the update?

Something extremely weird just happened to my computer. All of a sudden, my AVG popped up telling me I had like 6 viruses, but they couldn't be healed. Then I did a virus scan, and there was a worm that was delted...but there was only one. Then I noticed while it was scanning, normally there are a bunch of blue files, that just say "ok" for the "result/infection", but this time it says "Change" for the following files:

    kernell32.dll
    user32.dll
    shell32.dll
    ntoskrnl.dll

I thought this was mighty strange on account of they've always said "ok" instead of "Change". Also I've noticed my computer going slower than usual, and I'm not sure if there is some file on my computer making all these worms and trojans onto my computer or what. I'm sorry about this, but it just seems weird to me. Also I scanned with TrojanHunter, and it came up with nothing. Ad-Aware came up with 1 critical file, so I deleted that. I'll post my HijackThis log as well to let you see if there's anything strange in it.

I did some research on this and found that AVG has returned this exact result to a few others also. It seems that it's due to AVG's heuristics and may just be a false positive. But just to be safe get an online virus scan at one of these sites to see if they find anything.

    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

    or

    http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm

If nothing is found to be bad by either of these sites then I'd say you can assume that AVG is just being overly cautious.

I'm not seeing anything bad in your log, but there is a newer version of hijackthis out now that shows a bit more information.

Please download the most current version of Hijackthis and post a new hijackthis log.

I scanned with both programs and they both found nothing.

But I have a question about something new...

I'm not sure if this is virus related or not...but it very well could be, so I figured I'd ask you and see if you've ever heard of this before.

Ever scince I had the Search Home Assistant hijack my homepage a few months ago (got rid of it thanks to SpywareShooter :)) I've noticed that when I dial up onto our internet, it dosnt show that I'm on the internet in the "Notification Area" or "Taskbar Area"...I'm not sure what exactly its called, but it's the place on the bottom right-hand corner near the time on my computer...anymore. So basically, you can't tell by looking at the computer if I'm online anymore, and also, the only way to turn off the internet and free up our phone line, is by pulling the phone cord out of the phone jack. Now, this isn't exaclty a big deal, but it is rather bothersome, and if it's virus related, then I would hope to try to fix it.

Sorry I've been having so many problems with my computer...but thanks to you guys I'm learning a heck of a lot of new stuff. :) Thanks for all the help! :D

Here's a post of my HijackThis log.

To restore that icon in your taskbar just reinstall your ISP software again. It should restore those original settings.

Place a checkmark next to these entries, close all browsers and windows, and have HijackThis fix them by clicking Fix Checked:

    O23 - Service: Srv32 - Unknown - C:\WINDOWS\system32\srv32.exe (file missing)

It's probably not there, but delete this file if you find it.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\srv32.exe

Otherwise, your log is clean! Just let us know if you have any more problems.

how do I reinstall ISP software?
  • Buckeye_SamBuckeye_Sam Columbus, Ohio
    edited December 2004
    I missed this one earlier.

Place a checkmark next to these entries, close all browsers and windows, and have HijackThis fix them by clicking Fix Checked:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE

    Delete this file:

    C:\WINDOWS\ALCXMNTR.EXE

Please post a new hijackthis log.

Your ISP is your Internet Service Provider. Depending on who you're using, you may have an installation disc or you may have to download the installation file.

Re missing monitors in the notification. If they disappear again this is how to reset them

In Internet Explorer got to Tools/Internet Options/Connections/Settings/Properties
and make sure 'Show Icon In Notification Area When Connected' is ticked
(make sure at the connection step above that your default connection is highlighted)

    OR

    START/Connect to/Show all connections/(your default connection)/Properties
and again make sure 'Show Icon In Notification Area When Connected' is ticked
