one of my friends recently donated a compaq comp to folding...it has a 5.25 quantum big foot in there...that was originally in slave mode...they took the original harddrive...at any rate...in BIOS...the quatum is not detected...but when windows xp setup boots up...and tries to install it....the harddrive is selectable i have already reformatted it...but whenever it restarts...the harddrive cannot be detected...WHAT THE HELL?!?!

I'm guessing age and abuse :\ I'd just trash and buy a cheap 20gb or something.

I've had HPs, Compaqs and IBMs refuse to detect any drives other than the original drives in the original order with the original cables... Why they do this, I don't know. Try clearing the CMOS...
