I'm probably gonna get a new heatsink for my AMD Athlon 64 3200, which is a socket 754. I want one thats reasonably priced(up to $35-40ish at most). I was looking at this one because I have a blue led theme going on in my case.

It seems to be decent, I mean most are better than the stock one. Tell me what you guys/grils think, or make suggestions for a better one(it doesnt have to have led's, just a bonus if it does especailly if theyre blue)

any suggestions at all will be greatly appreciated!

    latest review:
A64 3200+ not oc idles at mid 40C, runs full service at 56C. This is a nice heavy fan which can take the heat. Copper blades help spread it around nicely.

    Those temps are PATHETIC.

I still dont know what caused my sudden temperature increase. The case is very clean, no heat is blowing on the computer, I have 3 case fans, and the room temperature is always what it is. My cpu used to idle at around 105*-110*F if not lower. Now its idling at around 115-120*F +. My cpu fan's averaging at around 1500+ rpm's and changes speeds often. The speeds range anywhere from 1300-2800 rpm's....strange. The heatsink is securley on, and Im out of suspects other than the heatsink is a piece of crap!

I know my temps are still low, but its just annoying not knowing why they jumped about 10-15 degrees, and I think it could be my stock heatsink

Either the fan is dying or you have a craptacular PSU.

its an ultra, but I've had it in for about 3-4 months and no problems at all. The temperature just started increasing within the past week. Its not like its a huge problem, I'm just confused why its doing it. It doesnt go past 55* C, but before it would be around 43*C

oops I was wrong. Its made by coolmax. I havent looked at it for a while, which could be the reason why i thought it was ultra. Im an idiot, but anyway heres a link http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=719593&CatId=1078

I'm pretty sure this is the one, considering that I got it from my cousin and not online

ugh. oh well... i suppose it'll work... for now...

Anyhow, have you checked the BIOS? There are some boards that have thermal control functions for the CPU that vary the fan speed based on temperature.

Yea i have cool & quiet enabled on my bios, and I have the cool & quiet program installed on my computer. I'l check to see if there are any other thermal control functions for the cpu/fan.
thanks for all the help so far

Alright i went into bios and I didnt find any other thermal controls. however I was looking at the rpm's of my heatsink's fan for about 5 minutes and it stayed around 3,000 rpm's. Maybe its just the program thats acting wierd. Im using the program that came with my motherboard.(ASUS K8V SE DELUXE)

As to the original question, how's about the Gigabyte 3D Pro cooler?

I'm using one and can honestly say it's the best cooler I've ever used.

Good review on this very forum.

    And blue led's.

Only prob, not sure how much it costs in the States, it's about £30.00 over here in the UK.

then most likely it's the software that's varying the fan speed based on temperature. you can probably disable it or just uninstall the software, or you could just leave it alone.

yea thanks for the help with everything. If the temperature goes higher/rpm's lower I'm going to get a new heatsink. But for now i'm fine. Thanks
