some OEMS establish admin passwords when installing, partly so users get to call them for help.

There is a easy way around that though, Just reset the Admin password.

I checked the user account, it says that I am computeer administrator password protected, and under Guest it said computer administrator. I don't know if other updates will install, b/c it keeps popping up that I need to update and that's the only one that shows up. I ran the update program again, and it didn't say v4 or v5. I will go on the updates website to see if there is anything else I can download.

Got 3-4 under my belt, but it took many posts and threads to get it done...started back in the ol' Old Icrontic forum days  Nuttin better than gettin it up and runnin, but then "if it ain't broken, take it apart to find out why":D

You are correct 120%...it is an obsession. Do they have group therapy for this?

Yes there is therapy, keep building, once you hit a certain point, you hate computers. I hit that mark about my 80th server. I build servers all day long. The obsession is gone.. ;D

Ok ange, lets start at the beginning.

    1. Download Adaware and scan your system for spyware. Remove any spyware found.
    2. Do a complete virus scan.
    3. then open Internet Explorer and goto http://www.windowsupdate.com attempt to run the updates. If you get an error message, write it down, then post it here so we can see it.

Post back once those are done and Ill give you the next round.

ange, please be patient. Read Gobbles post again...

the operative words "lets start at the beginning. "

The only reason I keep bringing up the MS updater version is that I think that's my problem. I got hung up like yourself while using v4, so I tried v5 while it was Beta and guess what...

    I'm still hung up.

Only trouble now is finding how to remove the v5 and the hung up update that downloaded and won't install.

Maybe I was trying to find some resemblance between your problem and mine. :banghead:

That came out wrong. I appreciate everyone's help. I was justr trying to say that I did it. Because after I read his post, I did it again. I was not trying to be rude, but I can see how it might look like that from reading the post b/c I was not elaborate. :type:

The problem is fixed! The microsoft updates help people that I emailed finally contacted me. I needed to download the full version that isn't on the website, and get permission to use it. Thank you guys for all of your help!

Sounds like a plan...maybe I'll get the full version of SP2 and give it a try. Or, maybe one of the free CDs they send out.

Glad to hear your back to normal ange

I gotta unplug my logjam before I try the update though.

    ange,

How about a link to that download?

The link I posted awhile back was suppose to be the Network install version of SP2.

These are the last things she had me install. I deleted the email that she sent me with the direst link, but these are the items that she had me download and it turned out successful.
