Yesterday VIA began shipping its fastest embedded x86 chip, the Eden ESP7000.

The chip is clocked at 733MHz and is designed for fanless set-ups, including set-top boxes, point-of-sale terminals and thin clients. It is said to consume no more than 6W of power and typically only 1W. The chip is equipped with 64KB of L2 cache and offers support for Intel's SSE mulitmedia instructions.
Based on VIA's Nehemiah processor core, the ESP7000 features a hardware random number generator, the basis for VIA's PadLock data encryption system which the company is targeting toward manufacturers who need to incorporate content DRM into their devices.
