IE extremely slow! help!!

edited February 2005 in Spyware & Virus Removal
I have noticed my internet is extremely slow these past few days. When i play a game, my ping should be below 100, but now it always stays between 300 and 1000!!! This is very very slow. i have a cable connection, and i can usually download from 200 - 300kbps (on sites). Actually i have a wire connecting my parents computer to mine (for the internet). If they have spyware or adware, can that be the cause of the speeds that i'm experiencing? Anyways i ran spybot and adaware se, but still had these slow speeds. Here is my HJT log:

Thanks for posting, and please be a little patient with us. All the good folks here who advise on cleaning up mucked-up systems are volunteers. We get many, many requests for help. The guys who will help you have to balance their personal lives with their volunteer work here.

We are not ignoring you. Hang in there, NewGuy.

    The following is suspicious:

    HKLM\..\Run: [nsxbpnmrh] C:\WINNT\System32\smizjj.exe

I’ve Googled the damn thing & was unable to find any info. And it ain’t a Windows file. So unless you know what this questionable entry links to, delete it for good.

Also Messenger Plus! is a known spyware, according to http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/msgplus/

    HKCU\..\Run: [MessengerPlus3] "C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 3\MsgPlus.exe" /WinStart

The following running processes also seem redundant to the health of your OS, and can be safely disabled from starting when Windows boot.

    C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe
    C:\WINNT\System32\pctspk.exe
    C:\Program Files\Ahead\InCD\InCD.exe
    C:\WINNT\System32\igfxtray.exe
    C:\WINNT\System32\hkcmd.exe
    C:\Program Files\CyberLink DVD Solution\PowerDVD\PDVDServ.exe

To disable them, type “services.msc” in the Run box – without the quotes – & find their respective services (double-click on the service to find the executable path). Once found, change the Startup Type to “manual” and "stop" the service.

Also disable the following startup .reg keys:

    HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    HKLM\..\Run: [InCD] C:\Program Files\Ahead\InCD\InCD.exe
    HKLM\..\Run: [IgfxTray] C:\WINNT\System32\igfxtray.exe
    HKLM\..\Run: [HotKeysCmds] C:\WINNT\System32\hkcmd.exe
    HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" –osboot
    HKLM\..\Run: [RemoteControl] "C:\Program Files\CyberLink DVD Solution\PowerDVD\PDVDServ.exe"
    HKLM\..\Run: [NeroFilterCheck] C:\WINNT\system32\NeroCheck.exe
    HKLM\..\Run: [THGuard] "C:\Program Files\TrojanHunter 4.1\THGuard.exe"

Note: Most of them I find to be inessential, although you might think otherwise. However, rather than deleting them outright via HijackThis, I recommend using a 3rd party software, like Autoruns (http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/autoruns.shtml) or, believe it or not, Spybot S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html) which has an embedded system startup controls. With either of them, you merely need to check off the box that corresponds to the above entry. The convenience of having these software is that, if you want to enable them in the future, you just need to check on the boxes again.

    hope that helps... :D
