Hi,

I've just bought an old dell GXi desktop with a pentium pro running at 200 mhz and no cd rom drives on an d no os installed
I tried to fix one on through ide but although it seems to run (i saw the light!) the pc doesn't want to take notice of it because the windows 98 in does not seem to load.
So i tried with the win 98 boot floppy and even when i asked it to care for the cd rom drives it says there's no cd rom drive.

please help!

Sorry for my english, i'm french

Thanks

Does the light on the CD-ROM drive stay lit constantly when the computer is on?

No, in fact, it just shines a few seconds but the win 98 on the cd won't boot.
Even if I inserted the win 98 boot floppy first.

ok, well that means the CD drive is connected correctly...

have you checked the boot order in the BIOS?

at the prompt type the following, hitting enter at the end of each line:

    e:
    setup

    the win98 setup should start.
