If only that was a PCI-X slot instead of a PCI slot.
Still a very interesting motherboard IF you can use regular sized heatsinks this time.
......Nope I see 4 holes around each slot instead of the standard 2... :shakehead

I don't think PCI-X and the associated control logic would fit on a board that size...
Four holes? It seems like my modded MCX462+ get a new lease on life (and the mod thread gets more hits )
If I could find one cheap enough.... that would be a sweet upgrade to my MSI k8d dual opteron with pci-x slots now.
Hey EQ tell Alex I can even benchmark my msi k8d with pci 320-2x raid controller against the 320-2e pci-e LSI raid (supposed to be faster) off his ABIT pci-e dual cpu rig... If he wants a review of his cool new board. The 320-2e is the only high end scsi raid set to run of pci-e right now. If I could get one for a reasonable price anyway.... (grin)
Well I hope BOTH of them are doing good work AT DFI now as I just bought that new NF4 DFI lanparty thing you were raving about. I got the 3400+ CPU and ATI pci-e video card in late Wed. afternoon and the mess is sitting in front of me as we speak so I REALLY hope that MB is sound. (grin)
Congrats, good for you! although a 3400+ wasn't the best choice though...
Either a 3000+ like both of mine doing 2.7GHz (300 x 9 @ 1.6v) because of the OC'ing potential/price ratio or a 3500+ because of the same reason and the 10 multiplier availability.
It's hard to find a good chips nowadays, most 05's don't do well. If you have a PC Club store in your area go check for CBBFD 0442SPMW or CBBFD 0442RPEW stepping. If you find one, grab it like it was gold and run but paid for it first of course...

The S939 3400+ is a 2.2ghz 11x multi chip with an HTT800 (4x) instead of HTT1000 (5x). Also Tex doesn't OC. His main concern is HD speed.
Yeah, I'm trying to get rid of the old stuff to make room for the new.
Now that I have both DFI's running I'll be selling my second NF7-S, CPU and more...
Funny you mentioned Tex and SCSI cause the other day we were talking about non-computer related stuff but as soon as I said SCSI he forgot all about the conversation and started to spew SCSI mambo-jumbo left and right...
Nope I won't OC. I paid almost $100 less then newegg wanted for a 3500+ for the 3400+ I bought.
If I want it faster I'll wait 60 days and just buy a faster chip. I want a silent fast computer and OCing usually leads to more heat, and bigger/more fans etc.. usually a little less stable as everything is pushed over its limits for a gain I won't feel anyway.
There is almost nothing I do (and I am far from a "normal" computer user) that I can tell the differance between Robins 142 opteron and my 3200+ socket 754.
It's differant if you game. OC'ing is a neat hobby and I did it big time for awhile too remember. But I am at the point now that having all 5 amd 64bit systems running 24/7 and with cheaper ram etc.. is more important to me then having one I cranked up 30 percent higher then rated speed. I have large amounts of ram and it's solid but to OC I would pay double for that. I would rather have double the ram then double the cost.
There are more things I feel the differance in the disk subsystem then the cpu. I now have 5 AMD 64bit computers and one has a gb and the others have 1.5 gb to 2gb of memory and at times THAT seems to make more differance then the cpu speed if I don't game.
I am NOT belittling the OC community or telling anyone else what to do in any way or form. There was a time I was right there with ya. Crap I watercooled, used a bong for the cooling and then had a frigging chest freezer in my computer room running -30 degree antifreeze out of it to cool a rig so yeah.. been there... done it...
Now I want the QUIETEST fast computer I can build. I guess I just got old..
A long rambling paragragh and he slides the truth in at the End!
Truth is He's right, HD speed (& memory) play a bigger part in percieved speed to most people even gamers. Nvidia's SLI Dual Video card thing is mostly hype (But pure Genius) Only 10-20% faster than a single card in the best cases.
BUT WHY Doesn't someone make a mini board/device that'll fit in a 5.25 bay, hold 4-8 slots for 1GB/2GB/4GB Ram sticks, have a battery backup (and/or power supply) and add in a small HD for backup. A device like this would be the fastest Boot/OS drive in existance. Your Computer would Fly!
Granted it'ld be expensive but if you can buy a 6800U/X850 XT you could afford this.
I remember TeX mentionong something about a project like this 2 yrs ago....
This company HyperOS 2002 claims to have just this sort of device Hyperdrive III (scroll down) - but the web site is sparse and I cant find a review of the product anywhere
There are probably a hundred companies making stuff like that actually. they been around for years. Bigger denser ram chips have brought out some lower end products now is the only differance. Made bigger single drives practical. Several of my clients have run them for stuff like Oracle archive logs and redo logs etc.. Even static lookup tables and stuff are awesome.
Most of them for years were scsi based but a few are ide or now sata based as well.
You know me... I always wanted to raid a half dozen scsi ones together... (grin)

No it's alot more than 20%. Check out the pics bellow: 3D05/03 SLI vs single card.
I don't play games nor I care for SLI, I'm just having fun with some new hardware that'll be all for sale soon...
No but OC'ing has alwasy been a very enjoyable HOBBY for you just like it is for many EQ and I am in no way or form wanted to belittle it as you and I both know there is a HUGE unthusiast community built up entirely of folks that share the same passion as you.

Are you kidding? when he sees the potential of the DFI he'll go nuts...
Tex OC?!? Nah - He's all about stability, customer satisfaction, zero problems (blah, blah, blah)
Now - show him a nice 6 disk SCSI Raid Array...

why would I take your remarks negatively when you haven't said anything negative...
Thats a synthethic benchmark. Show me a real game or app.
