HI. I have windows me. I run Internet Explorer 6.0 also SBC Yahoo! Browser. I am having trouble on the web site, www.nick.com, everytime I get on that site it freezes completley. I also have trouble playing animation on-line. On www.disney.com, it all works just fine! I also am ahving a lot of crashes where IE has to shut itself down. What is wrong and how do I fix it? Please help me!

This isn't directly related to your problem, but ME is a godawful piece of software. It's like Satan incarnated as a program. It's crash prone, buggy, insecure and just generally really, really, really really really bad. Assuming your computer can handle it (we can figure that out later if you decide to take my advice), I'd highly recommend upgrading to Windows XP.

I would love to up-grade to Win XP, but that costs money. Probably a lot, or I would upgrade. :(

$92.95 + $0.99 shipping, to be exact. Assuming, that is, that the rest of the computer is up to it. If it came with ME, it probably is (although it may need a memory upgrade... the cheaper the computer was when you bought it, the more likely it is to need one)

Can I get the specs of your system? Nickelodeon is a flash heavy site and probably not optimised (unlike Disney's site) so could be a resource hog. How much RAM is on the PC (what is the processor speed), how much free space do you have on your c:\drive, etc? Do you have high speed? Does IE freeze with a white screen or does some content load and then freeze (if so, at what point)?

While WinME is inferior to XP (it is an older piece of software) many people still run it (and the whole Win9x family) and it can be very stable as long as people realise that it isn't XP.

Try reinstalling IE or using system restore.

Try Firefox. Click the button in my signature, install Firefox, check the same sites, and see if you get the same problems.

If you do a clean re-boot (power off) of the PC and then try to load the nick.com site, does it load properly? I'm thinking that your system may not be able to handle the content of the nickelodeon site because you don't have enough RAM. Do you know how much RAM you have? You can tell by looking at the system properties (right click on the "My Computer" icon and select properties. If you're running 128MB, you may want to upgrade to 256 or 512. Also, can you tell me the processor (its in the same window as the RAM)?

Are you running a lot of software at the same time? How many icons do you have in your system tray?

Okay, I have 127.0 MB RAM and for the processor it says Intel(r) Celeron(tm)processor. How do I get more RAM and how much will it cost me? I have also tried shutting down everything running including shutting the things down under ctrl+alt+del and it still frezzes, it's just that browser that freezes, if I didnt mention it. :)

I wanted to also add, I have had this computer since about Oct. of 2001 and everything was fine. It's been the past 4 months i've had troubles, and nick.com worked just fine until recently. I don't know if that tells you anything, but I thought maybe it would. :D

If you haven't reinstalled in a while (months or yrs), I suggest you try that. Fixes most things that aren't related to hardware.

HP pavilion mx 50 desktop. is that what you mean?

Close. The "MX50" is on the monitor, right? There should be another set of numbers on the front of the computer case, E.G. HP Pavillion 6605 or something like that. That's the info I need. :)

Checking Crucial's site, your PC uses PC133 ram. You can get a 256mb stick for $45-60. http://www.memorysuppliers.com/kin25pc75168.html

Okay, i'll check in to see if I can upgrade my RAM. I got firefox and it's working good. But how can I get it to be my default browser for everything? Wehn I set it for my default, there are still things that use IE, like when I click a link in my MSN Messenger, it uses IE. I want that switched to firefox. Any idea how to do that?

In Firefox: Tools -> Options -> General. Look at the Defualt Browser section. Hit Check Now, and it will tell you if it is set to default or not'

You won't be able to completely eliminate IE, many of the MS programs are designed to push links directly to IE, no matter what other browser you have set for your default. If someone sends you a link via Messenger, and you want to open in Firefox, you may have to copy and paste the URL into Firefox.
