problem with my 6800

edited February 2005 in Hardware
I just got a eVGA 6800 and im very dissapointed. On counter strike running at 1024x768 im only getting average of 35 FPS. In some maps, i will get down to around 15! I dont have the best PC but i dont think its too bad to bottlekneck it this much. I was thinking that the card might be running at 4x instead of 8x. I know my mobo runs 8x but i dont know how to see if it is running at 8x right now. any help would be really appreciated. If someone could tell me how to check it/change the speed, that would be great. Im running on

AMD 2100
Albatron kx400
eVGA 6800
512 mb Kingston ram
80 gb Maxtor hardrive
Sound blaster live

Thanks
-DJ

4x/8x AGP is not problem I would have thought as in most cases it makes very little difference. Are you sure that you haven't got Anti-Alaising & Ansotropic filtering set too high? Thats usually wot causes massive slow downs in the first instance.

Also it would be helpful if you could say what graphics driver version you're running.

To find out these things right click in free space on your desktop, leftclick on "properties" then "settings" then "advanced". You should then see different tabs which will tell you the info you need.

Sorry I can't be more specific but I'm not in front of my computer right now.

sounds like you didn't install the drivers. download from nvidia.com again and re-install

    1. your cpu is somewhat a limiter.
    2. disable Anti-Alaising & Ansotropic filtering
    3. set your resolution to 1024x768 and run the stress test.

    im running a
    AMD Athlon 2500+ barton
    1gig kingston pc3200 @ ddr333
    ati radeon 8500le @ 1024x768 32 bit color

    stress test: 56.42 fps
average in CSS:56 fps but it bounces between 50 and 90

    cat5.1 drivers.

its not the card, its the configuration. It is also known that HL2 game engine runs better on ATI cards than Nvidia.

As a last resort, try formatting and reinstalling. That worked on my Xeon system, which has a 6800GT in it.

In that case then soft mod the sucker & then overclock the hell out of it. That will certainly improve your framerates somewhat.

I know what your problem is, because I have the same video card.

    Motherboard: Intel D865PERL
Processor: Intel Pentium 4/ 3.0 GHz (Northwood)
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 80 GB 7200 RPM
    Sound Card: SB Audigy
    Video Card: eVGA 6800 w/ NVSilencer 5
    Power Supply: Ultra X-Connect 500/w
    Memory: Crucial 1 GB (512 x 2) RAM

    ---

When I reformatted the problem came back, which was that the default settings that it "reccomends are a bit off.

Just lower your AA & AF.
