Just out of curiousity, what are some of the ICs OCZ uses? Of course they use TCCDs for the sweet stuff, but do they also use Promos and Adata? What other ICs do they use?
We always try to use the best IC's money can buy all the time but the brand can change from day to day. Samsung TCCDS are one example, Promos another. A-Data have never produced their own IC's as far as i know.
Please tell me they don't use Elixir...please please...Elixir is teh eviiiil!!! Seriously, I've witnessed several bad batches of Elixir based sticks of ram and they were not from the same places.
They sell sticks with Elixir branded IC's on em, I know that doesn't mean much but I've seen more than Elixir branded memory using them, one of the culprits being Ultra on their budget ram unless they were buying Elixir modules and selling them under their own brand.
All I know for certain is that while I worked at the shop there in Russellville we had every batch of memory that came in with Elixir branded chips fail at previously unprecedented rates with the minimum being about 30% for one shipment and the maximum being well over 70% so that gives an overall average of a 50% failure rate and like I said this was coming from different vendors.
We eventually had to tell all our vendors that if we got anymore ram with Elixir branded IC's on it we would refuse it and let them eat the shipping upon it's return.
I swiped this from Elixir's website:
About Us...
Elixir – Those who know Memory Know to choose Elixir
The Elixir brand was first introduced in late 2001 applied to spot market memory products manufactured and marketed by Nanya Technology Corporation. Elixir is one of the world's leading developers and manufacturers of high-performance dynamic random access memory (DRAM) and has leaded the industry with the introduction of both DDR1 and DDR2 memory products; and now Elixir delivers the world’s most advanced memory solutions direct to new PC platform with the introduction of next generation Elixir DDR2 memory.
As one of the world's leading manufacturers of leading-edge 0.11-micron DRAM memory components, Elixir is one of few memory providers that delivers DDR2 memory products straight from the production line to you. Rest assured, when you purchase Elixir DDR and DDR2 memory, you are buying some of the world' s most rigorously qualified and tested memory — direct from one of the world's most advanced memory production lines.
We always try to use the best IC's money can buy all the time but the brand can change from day to day. Samsung TCCDS are one example, Promos another. A-Data have never produced their own IC's as far as i know.
BTW, welcome to the wonderful world of troubleshooting memory Over at www.HouseOfHelp.com, we host the official corsair support forum. Let's just say... it gets interesting occasionally
Asked about the ICs, partially out of curiosity, and to confirm what I already guessed. We've got a poster ranting about ICs, wanted to get some more info about another company's stock. No worries, only looks bad for the poster, whom as of yet has failed to produce any facts to support his opinions. Oh, and Corsair's used Adata ICs in the past.
[EDIT: oh brother. logic does note cease to amaze me with this guy. Getting an outside opinion here, what is OCZ's Offical stance on RMAing memory if it meets the rated specs that are guaranteed by their warranty, but may not OC well?]
Generally, we are very nice when it comes to rma. It depends from case to case actually. Our main goal is to have a happy customer. The actual hardware comes in second hand. Who are we if i may ask? Do you run the web host for Corsairs support forum?

I got the best stable overclock ive ever had on a cheep stick of elixir it was 2.5ns dont remember the model. Had it stable in memtest x86 @ a 320fsb overnight it was only ddr333 too lol
but the stick did ketch on fire and take my motherboard with it asus replaced it tho thanks asus
that was a few years ago.

We as in the HoH board members. Just have a poster there that's attempting (very poorly I might add) to stir the waters of malcontent, but is jumping to rather large assumptions on the generalities of how memory ICs are chosen within the general memory manufacturing community. He's doing some research on something, dunno what yet. Keeps making these statements of dissatisfaction, but doesn't clarify them. All are really vague statements too. Doesn't really matter, I'm just trying to help him out by gathering info from a non-Corsair source so that he sees that certain things are not company specific but rather practices of the industry as a whole. The reason being that if one of his end arguments is what I think it may be based upon his past couple of posts, then he's getting blinded by something or someone somewhere. (Ok, now I'm the vague one LOL!)
As for my question about OCZ's warranty, I understand the "above and beyond" thing concerning cust satisfaction, RMAing memory that's not bad from time to time to satisfy the customer. Corsair does it as well, standard cust relations fare for any cust / tech support department in fact. But I was wondering what the letter of the OCZ warranty says in relation to memory that well, does what it's supposed to do, e.g. w-x-y-z @ xxx Mhz, but that may not OC to their expectations. Keep in mind I'm asking about the warranty itself, not the customer satisfaction side of tech support.
No, I don't run the web host exactly. I'm one of the admins @ the House of Help. The HoH existed on its own well before Corsair's Support forum. The HoH and Corsair have a mutually beneficial relationship. In Corsair's section, Corsair's reps hand out the RMA info stuff and the official company, like you do here, and the HoH staff treat the posters in the Corsair section like any other poster in any other section. If they have questions we can answer, we help them out. BTW, What's your opinions on the Promos ICs in general?
Oh BTW, I think I've told Prime and Shorty about this site, but you and gnome may be interested in it as well.

IC question was already answered IMHO. Warranty question still stands however. Here's the closest thing I can find on their site:
All OCZ Technology memory modules have been thoroughly tested and, when shipped, are free of defects in material and workmanship.
Is there a policy somewhere that specifically also states they are warrantied to at least meet certain specifications, and if they do not, RMA time? I'm assuming there is, just can't find it. Also, assuming that is true (again, safe to assume), are OCs of any level guaranteed?

We test many different ic's each day. All we do is pick the ones that overclock the best. Promos are good ic's to, just like many other.
