So Do You Think This Will Keep My 6800nu Cool & Overclocked?

This is a Swiftech MCW50-T, it uses a built in peltier to help cool the core which I then combined with a MCW50 FX6800 fitting kit to mount it. I had to make a few modifications to get it to fit & then I cut up some spare ram sinks to help cool the memory which I'll probably use a fan on as well.

Can't use it yet as I'm waiting for a replacement barb as original was damaged by Mr Postman. :(

I'm more than a little iffy about using that pelt on that 6800...

Awesome stuff Jimborae! Let us know how it performs..

TECs seem to be getting less and less common these days.. What PSU will you be using to power that bad-boy? I'm guessing that is a ~70W pelt?

Does the 6800nu have temperature monitoring?

Well it's up and running & it actually runs off the system PSU (Antec True Power 480w), I think it's an 80w pelt. As for temps the internal diode on the card (yep it has one) only seems to go as low as 26c. So at present I have no accurate idea as to what the actual core temp is but I'd hazzard a guess at about 15c under load.

Yet to try out how much further I can overclock the card, that'll have to wait till the weekend but so far all looks good.

Fantastic.. Do you notice any sag of the +12V rail when using the pelt?

Also, did your water loop temperature increase noticably?

That's a beuty Jim. Great job!
If they only could make those blocks thinner, SLI wouldn't be a problem.

Anyone know what the highest wattage pelt. you can run aircooled (reasonably) is?

I want to try pelt cooling on my video card if I can, but I don't want to buy a watercooling setup at this point, if ever.

    Thanks fellas,

Not noticed any sag in the 12v rail (holding steady at 12.3v) but the overall loop temp has gone up 2c. However I'm yet to stress it with folding@home so load temps might increase more overall.

Rivatuner is playing up at present & everytime I enable the NvBoot Strap driver if causes a 20% cpu load so no unlocking @ present. :(

It's also eirily quiet as well as I've also installed a T-Balancer Fan Control Unit so all the fans are turned way low. :)

Oops. Forgot to respond to "why"

Anyhow, I thought it had a 50w pelt. The 6800 puts out more than 50w of heat under load, and with a 50w pelt you'd soak the pelt and eventually cook the card. I looked it up on Swiftech's site, turns out it has an 80w pelt, so it's just enough for a 6800. As you've found, it'll work fine. Just don't use it on anything bigger than a 6800 Ultra...
