comptuer fails to boot after many tries and if successful, hangs immediately

edited March 2005 in Hardware
hi guys, hope u guys can help me here.

it takes many tries for me to boot my com, many times it jus switches on without booting. at first jus a few tries usually get it started, recently it has worsened to around 1 hour jus sitting there starting and restarting.

even when it starts, it hangs easily. hence i have not shut down for many days for fear of neva seeing the desktop again. this has got to stop though.

Your thread is OK where it is. If your system is up and running, albeit with you having to leave it on, Hardware Discussion is fine. If it were to keep crashing, preventing you from using it, then Emergency would be appropriate.

if you have more than one hard drive make sure they are jumpered correctly. If you dont, and memtest passes fine then you could have a HDD failing intermittantly.

Hey i had a problem similar to this ago. My ram checked out fine and so did my hard drive. In one test i had a HD error. So i was pretty sure it was my hd. So i traded a friend ram for a hd. When he put the ram in his com had problems. So i found out it was my ram all along and i did run memtest. So if you have any additional ram try it. Memtest probably doesnt mess up much but in my case it did.
