How to make screens open at full size?

One annoying problem I've had in Windows 2000 Pro and Windows XP computers for a while now is that when you click on a new page or something, the windows do not always open at full screen size.

They'll open at a size that takes up only 1/4 to 1/2 of the screen, then I have to go to the top right and click the little button to full size the image.

I'd like to have the new windows open at full size right from the start.

Are there any settings in 2000 and XP that will make this happen?

That's one of my pet peeves, too.

There are third-party programs that will do what you want but I've had mixed luck with them, not to mention that it adds another process running full time.

    (I'm assuming you're using IE)

What I do now is this:

    1) Open one browser window
    2) Click a link that will open a second browser window
    3) In the second browser window, use the click-and-drag resize method (do NOT maximize the window!) to make the window fill the screen
    4) Close the first browser window, then close the second one

The next time a second window opens it will be full-screen (but not maximized). Sometimes a site's pop-up window will screw up your settings. When that happens, repeat steps 1-4.

Alternately, you can use a tabbed browser like Firefox, or an IE shell like Avantbrowser or MyIE2.

If you just drag it to full screen, the next time you open it, it will be full screen.

I thought you could fix that by opening IE, maximizing, and closing.

Fellows, with all due respect, if those other methods worked he wouldn't be having a problem, now would he? :mullet:

    Try this as well...

    http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/ietips.htm
In some cases the "Remember last window size" info becomes corrupted in the Registry.

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
    "Window_Placement"=

To reset the "Window_Placement" entry to default. You can download a small reg file to reset (to default) and correct this behavior.

Download: ResetWindowPlacement.reg [right-click and select: "Save Target As"]
To use: right-click and select: Merge - Ok the prompt and reboot.

    * When all else fails, paste the below line into Start | Run
    javascript:window.open(screen.availWidth,screen.availHeight)
Note: then make sure the above window is the last one closed.

Not sure about that javascript trick, I just tried it and it did not seem to work. Try the reg hack at your own risk :) The source is a reputable site.
