Problems with offeroptimizer and adserver popups

Hi guys,

I'm having trouble with popups from "offeroptimizer" and "adserver" on a PC I've reclaimed (it was used by my teenage daughter and had all sorts of p2p programs, cursors, toolbars and other suspect programs!). I've done everything I can with Adaware and Spybot, and also have the Google toolbar installed, but the popup problem persists - I'm hopeful that someone here can help me with the problem.

Here's my HJT log:

    Hi Spiral Stairs

    ===============

    Go to Add/Remove programs and remove(uninstall) the following, if present:

    Conscorr

    The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software.

    ===============

    Run HiJackThis then:

    1. Click "Config..."
    2. Click "Misc Tools"
    3. Click "Open Process manager"

    -

    Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\ymvmwb.exe

    Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.
    ===============

    Now, let's open a command prompt and unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:

    regsvr32 /u Pynix.dll
    regsvr32 /u vgams.dll

    It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save on the typing.

    ===============

    Run HiJackThis and click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - SOFTWARE - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: PynixObj Class - {00000000-DD60-0064-6EC2-6E0100000000} - C:\WINDOWS\Pynix.dll

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [pkvkmfw] C:\WINDOWS\System32\ymvmwb.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [conscorr] C:\WINDOWS\conscorr.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [satmat] C:\WINDOWS\satmat.exe

    O21 - SSODL: Mapicer - {34E688A2-6E16-4FDE-A125-E6B3F7AFDC55} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\oleget.dll

    Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

    ===============

    Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

    files...

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\ymvmwb.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\Pynix.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\vgams.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\conscorr.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\satmat.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\oleget.dll

    -

    Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them from "Safe Mode".

    Download, install and keep updated, Spywareblaster from www.javacoolsoftware.com to help keep your system clean.
    Once installed check for updates. If there are any, they will be automatically installed. Once done you then need to enable all protection and close the program.
    Make sure that you update it on a regular basis.

    ===============

    Post back a new log after rebooting and let me know how everything goes.

    Hi Crunchie,

    Thanks for the quick reply.

    A couple of things to mention before I post the log:

    1. There was no conscorr entry in the "Add/Remove programs"
    2. Every time I killed the ymvmwb.exe process it respawned again (I tried to kill it about 10 times), so I rebooted into safe mode (where it wasn't running) and proceeded from there

    After following all of the steps, here is the HJT log:

    Congratulations! Your log looks clean - good work!

    ===============

    It's probably a good idea to defragment your hard drive too. This may well improve the performance of your PC.

    ===============

    Download, install and run Cleanup! from Steven Gould, then:

    1. Click "Cleanup!"

    (wait for the program to finish scanning your system, and selecting files to be removed.)

    2. Exit the program and reboot the computer, if necessary.

    -

    For more information about using Cleanup! see here.

    ===============

    If everything is running ok, let's do the final cleanup...

    ===============

    1. Run "Disk Cleanup" and allow it to remove everything it finds.

    2. Go to www.trendmicro.com and click "Free Online Scan", then "Scan now, it's free!". When it's downloaded, select all available drives, then check(tick) "Auto clean", then click "Scan".

    ===============

    If your having any more problems, post back.

    -

    Happy surfing,

    [crunchie].

    PS.
    might be enough to convert me into a WCE supporter!
    LOL. Just might be their year :).
