Nintendo either has to do this right or they are screwed. They are still milking the original Nintendo ideas and come up with only mildly innovative but practically useless items (Like that stupid blow harmonica on the DS). They are either going to make or break their entire console company with the Revolution I think.
As for Zelda, I loved the first one, hated everyone since.
That's what they said with the N64 - which by all accounts was a bomb of a system.
I think you highly underestimate the almost religious fervor with which Nintendo is adored by the Japanese people.
Nintendo could release a total piece of crap with the Revolution and they would still be successful. This is not going to be a make-or-break situation. They own Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong, StarFox, POKEMON, and a few other insanely popular franchises. They're not going anywhere yet.
Started out a Nintendo Fanboy. Got a GC for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. OGM that game sucked (for Final Fantasy, anyway). I just can't bring myself to get a GC, especially considering that this generation is coming to an end. I LOVE Zelda, don't get me wrong. Many a night was lost to the Ocarnia of Time, but, I just don't have that much console time and what precious little there is of it, I usually gear it toward FF type games because my wife and I like to play those together. However, if this Zelda turns out to be solid, and lengthy, I may have to breakdown and buy a used system and see whast all the fuss is about. /end most wishy-washy post evar...
Cartridges in an era of optical storage - very bad move. The N64 graphics were WAY ahead of its time, way better than the chunky klunky PlayStation. It just never took off the way the PS did
GUYS! Dude. I dunno if you guys knew this or not, but I certainly didn't.
When Nintendo releases this game later in '05, if you put $10 down on the game beforehand, you get a free Wind Waker disc. Now. That in itself is nothing overly special. BUT! It is. This Wind Waker, see... is... REALISTIC. I did love the cel-shading, but they're re-releasing it in the classic Zelda (envelope-pushing) animation style!

Apparently Miyamato is finally making that Mario game for the GameCube that 99% of us have been looking for...here's to hoping it's damned good.

and, I know some Perfect Dark fans who would disagree that the system bombed... So, maybe not by ALL accounts, Ja?
Super Smash Brothers
Perfect Dark
Goldeneye 64 (best game ever?)
Diddy Kong Racing
Mario Kart 64
need I say more?
I don't see that as being one of those "must have" games...I played it, didn't finish it because it was...I dunno just not fun.
btw: how did this become an N64 discussion?

where did you hear that?
Edit:
SONUVABITCH!
I wonder how hard it would be for them to redo WW in this new engine. Or if they could port all of them to the new engine.
Awefully believable April fools joke...
And its not even april yet. Friggin rubes :shakehead
