ok it's late and I'm headed to bed but first ...

I'm back with the 600 pointer
my temps are still 38c and 23c

so apparantly it needed a break or the ambient dropped and I didn't notice idunno.

Anyway ...we can start again if you like and this time we can examin your client.cfg ...you may have the checkpoint too tight or something who knows??? But we'll find a solution.

I didn't stop the client but I turned it on in ADMIN TOOLS > Services

ok ...first off are you still having the problem?
Secondly, what is the name of the protien you are currently folding?

I think I've also figured out why this gromac is running so much cooler than the previous one ...it's a new one and is only using 82mb of ram.

Nope. It doesn't seem like it.
The protein i'm folding is p1475_tet1_03_1

    OK.

    So whats next?

how much ram is that protein using?

It's using 97,988k of ram. Is that correct? I looked at the mem usage in Task Manager

    yeah probably correct.
So I'm thinking that this protien isn't using the amount of ram that the previous was.
I looked into it and the ram usage before was over 220mb ...now it's down to 80mb and still folding a 600 pointer. My temps are down and my system is much more stable.

I think that some of the 600p gromacs are more efficient than others.

So it's probably not the big wu thats killing the core but only certain big wu's.
Question is ...how do you avoid those?
Well there is no sure fire way of doing so without eliminating big wu's altogether but ...
have you ever considered doing beta assignments for stanford?

csimon, what are we trying to determine here? I'm a bit lost. sorry!

If it's to do with the 600p gromac I had, then I think you are right in first saying that it could be a corrupt wu. I don't think it was the cause of over-heating I mentioned becuase my current 364p gromac is working correctly and the comp's cpu is still over-heating. The mobo is being replaced next week which will control the over-heating.

umm, not really. What beta assignments are stanford doing? Is it still folding?

    Thanks :)

yes it's still folding beta wu's.
actually -advmethods is beta wu's in a secondary stage.
I can post more on that later.
If everything is working fine now then perhaps just monitor what you have and see if it happens again.

Cheers! F@h is stable and all is good

I've learnt variuos new things that I had no clue about.

Thanks for your help, appreciate it :fold:

btw, anything else you need me to do?

not really but you can look in to the community and perhaps post something about the problem you were having ...I'm sure you'll get an explanation.
Also ...if you're interested in beta work just PM one of the admins and let them know and they can take you from there.

Good luck and let me know if there's anything else!:fold:
