daisy chaining IDE drives?

i've heard of this being done before, and i was wondering if any of you knows how to hook more than two drives to an IDE channel? do you have to have special cables or something? i have two hard drives and two cd drives, and recently was given another cd drive to mess with, i want to hook it up in tandem with the rest of my drives, but at the moment my IDE ports are already all used up... so how do i daisy chain?

thanks :)

You can't have more than 2 IDE drives per channel.

You can however add 2 or 4 more channels with a IDE Raid controller

As stated, 2 drives per channel is the maximum you can have. There are some IDE -> SCSI converters out there, but they're expensive and don't work all that well. The only real solution is to get a PCI IDE controller card (with or without RAID)

i actually happen to have onboard raid (abit kx7-333r) and have the new cd drive plugged into one of the ports and it isn't being recognized; i guess i could further investigate that. thanks for the help!

Most RAID controllers won't work with CD drives; they only do hard drives. Try plugging the HD into the RAID...

Highpoint RAID controlers do not suport ATAPI devices, such as CD-ROM, DVD, ZIP and LS-120 drives.

Where as Promise RAID controlers DO support ATAPI devices.
