OE and General File Synchronisation

I've never really done anything like this before, and don't know if it is even possible, but anyway, here goes.

I have a handfull of machines on a basic home network, two of the computers run Outlook Express, both with identical email accounts installed, I also have the same situation for lots of file folders, containing anything from videos to documents.

I want the two computers to be able to keep in file sync with each other, i.e so when I download, send or whatever emails on one rig, the others mail storage folder is amended with the updated mail information, and the same with my files, e.g I download a new video on one machine and put it in a specific folder, it then is duplicated in the other computers identical folder.

Bascially I want the machines to run in paralell with each other, so I can hop from one to the to other without having to worry about my mail folders and file folders being up to date.

Is this possible? if so how? and what software do I need? etc etc

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Well I found a nice piece of software which did exactly what I wanted. It's called Filesync and is a Freeware application. It is designed to work best in conjunction with Window's built in 'Scheduled Task' engine. Just in case anyone was interested.

    Cheers

Basically since I built my new rig, I've had two machines dedicated to my own personal use in one place, e.g on the same network. One is in my room, the other is in my living room. I wanted to be able to work on both just as efficiently, with both systems having up to the minute local copies of the same files.

Those files for me also include my Outlook Express mail store folder, which annoyingly can only be allocated as being a local directory, otherwise I could have simply directed both computers to the same email store folder (using the LAN), which would be located on only one of the machines, essentially keeping my versions of OE up to date with all my emails, etc etc. But like I said that just isn't possible, so like with my files, I needed a program which could check through both machines folders, and update files and folders with new files or updated versions of the same file, whenever they were created on either one of the two machines.

There are seemingly many programs which can do this, but the majority cost a fortune and are loaded with features you don't need and just clutter up your system. The program I found at Download.com is completely free and does just what I described above. You simply install it on one machine, tell it which directories you want kept in sync, and at the click of a button it will make sure both systems have the most uptodate files and copies of files. The best thing is though, it is designed to work seamlessly with the Windows 'Scheduled Task' engine, which means you can set it to sync up every minute or every week, at startup or even when the computer is just idle.
