The KV8-MAX3
Built on the long-anticipated Athlon 64 CPU and based on VIA's high performance KT800 chipset, the KV8 MAX3 promises to bring AMD fans the ultimate platform for gaming, multimedia and insane overclocking. Being a MAX product, the KV8 is loaded with features including 6 channel serial ATA RAID, 6 channel audio, gigabit LAN, SPDIF In and Out, USB 2.0 and Firewire. The KV8-MAX3 also comes with the ABIT OTES thermal solution for the PWM mosfets and capacitors, ensuring that your system will stay cool and stable, even under the most extreme overclocking missions.

These'll go nice with the new WD 72GB Raptors just announced!
:celebrate: :kneel:
<a href="http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=11385" target=_blank>The Inq: AMD's plans for Athlon 64 press reviews</a>
Now to see how long it takes them to straighten out the drivers.
WHY A VIA CHIPSET? WHY GOD, WHY?!? :bawling:
If it didn't have a Via chipset, I'd consider it. But I'll betcha THIS one won't work with my Audigy2 either... :banghead:
Not that you haven't heard this before.
I think its good enough to buy! cuz im sure as hell not gonna wait until the "A" version to come out, that will be a while
Thrax, most likely. But I like blaming Via better because it worked fine in my ASUS A7M266, A7N8X-DX, and MSI K7D... it's just the KX7 it didn't like. Conclusion: It doesn't like Via chipsets (with the apparent exception of the 686B southbridge...)
Besides, it's Creative, so it must be better. After all, we all know Intel is good and AMD sucks, right? The same thing must apply to sound cards...
//End OT
Liquid; I'll wait for the Tyan E-ATX board with the AMD chipset and AGP to come down in price a bit, or for single-cpu boards with AMD chipsets or updated nforce3s... Besides, it's S754, and from what I understand, the best route for ultimate performance is going to be S939/940, since Athlon 64's won't do dual channel DDR. Or am I wrong? I haven't kept up on it that much so...
On another side note- Omega, those 73GB Raptors will probably be upwards of $500 each. That's my guess anyhow, based on the current price of the 36GB Raptors, 36GB 10k SCSI drives and 73GB 10k SCSI drives...
And why would you want to use an Audigy when it already has 6 channel sound?
//Edit... I just realized something: Since when does the KX7 have sound period? I'm too lazy to try to figure out where the hell mine is right now (Believe it or not, it is possible to loose an ATX-size motherboard. Don't believe it? Check the "Post your desk" thread...)
Thats about time they are producing a Athlon 64 board. It even uses OTES cooling. However, hasn't it been currently proven through benchmarks that the current nForce 3 chipset is much slower than the KT800?
On Pricewatch...
WD Raptor 36GB are ~$140
SCSI 10K 36GB are ~$140 (Maxtor)
SCSI 10K 72GB are ~$150-300 (Maxtor)
You can expect the WD Raptor 72GB to be $200-$300 on intro. Not upwards of $500
I meant the KV8-MAX3 has onboard sound but it may not be Soundstorm tho.
Give nVidia time to produce a C3 revision nForce3, and VIA to produce a KT800A.
It'll also give time to wait for platform drivers to mature, faster chips to arrive, etc.
But it's better than trapping myself in the EPoX 8RDA+ (Boards failing en masse)/NF7-S 1.2 (Poor speed and overclockability) debacle again.
