With death comes re-birth

Hi folks,
Just thought I'd let you know, the team has lost an Athlon XP 2800+ CPU today :bawling:. For just over 2 years it has folded 24/7 non-stop for Team#93 and has given everything it possibly could to the Folding@Home cause. My best guess is that the trusty 'Barton' past away some time on Tuesday afternoon. Cause of death: Folding For Life.
It certainly wasn't the fastest CPU in my Folding arsenal but without a doubt it completed the most work units and ultimately had its life cut short for the greater good.
May we all take a minute to honour the contributions of one hell of a processor. :smiles:
...
But of course with death comes re-birth, and the glorious spirit of the recently deceased has been wondrously reincarnated to continue the fight, with more fire power than before, and with even more heart. Its new guise, one Athlon 64 3000+ 'Venice' will be back Folding in only a matter of hours.
Pay your respects, then re-joice at the re-birth.
I thank you.

I think it almost cremated itself to be fair.
99% load for 2 years straight. I think it's probably had enough of being cooked.
I believe it was OEM originally.
It's actually out of my mother’s PC that I built for her a couple of years back. It runs the ICS for the LAN in her house, so it's always left on. She called me up last night and told me the computer wasn't working, I presumed she had just pulled a lead out or something, but no, when I came today to check it out, the CPU had gone bye bye. It was an almost serene moment of realisation. If my life was a film, there would have been some pretty sweeping music playing at the time.
I hope my barton goes that way ...with dignity! :smokin:
Yeah hopefully it came from the lizzard and not the bottle.
I mean it is only about 20,000 hours, while most other electronic components have around 50,000 hours (or 5+ yr.) MTBF.
I have no doubt it would still be alive today if it had been sitting idle for most of those glorious 2 years of its life, but I'm sure you'll all agree, it's better to burn out than to fade away. I'd rather live a shorter life and have it mean more, than live a longer life and have it mean less. I think the CPU shared that way of thinking. This is why we’re all honouring it on this day.
Oh man, sometimes, 40oz is just the beginning.
