If you change those internet cafe PC's to 'power monitor off after 15 minutes' (assuming they're on screensaver currently) and run folding I bet your electricity consumption would decrease overall.
I've measured and found all of my folding PC's are <150 W (most < 100W) But they're dedicated machines with only CPU/Heatsink, motherboards and ram. Electricity here is the second cheapest in NA so I won't tell you guys what it costs here .
*takes note of the slightly negatively sloped line at the end* Yes, a dramatic comeback. </sarcasm>
For the 8/1 sloped line, yes, nice comeback. (I hope I got the slope right... my understanding of slope has always sucked .
"I'm running about $130 every month."
Our bill is around that with lights and appliances, along with one computer on about 16 hours a day, sometimes overnight on weekends, and one on (but not folding) about 3 hours a day. I can't see what it would be like with 7PCs on 24/7. I always turn my monitor, speakers, and printer off when I'm not using them though, even if its only for a dinner break.
Yeah, I remembered that but it just seemed wrong, but now that I think about it I know its right. It was from the Algebra 1 year when the teacher explained nothing and expected us to do it =\
When you see it go down like that for several days in a row it is time to get worried. At the rate we're going, we'll match yesterdays output by the next update (6:00pm CDT). Then we'll have two of the remaining updates for the day (out of eight total) to improve on it.
Another factor is that csimon's lab was brought back online Monday. With that many computers all starting a fresh WU at the same time it is normal to see a sudden spike, followed by a dip. It'll all even out over time.
In the meantime - let's keep up the recruiting drive.
You need Internet to Fold right? One time I accidently cut internet access to this computer while it was folding and it continued to do so. I could actually burn the folding cores and stuff to a CDRW and transfer it to my Celeron 566 if Internet access isn't required, but I think it is.
Okay well I still need to Send/Recieve the WUs and the computer is in the basement about 50 feet away. All my Ethernet cables are being used so that does me no good. Maybe once I get it moved closer and get an Ethernet cable I can start folding with it.
Either a cd or even a flash drive will work.
I have several systems I'm planning on running f@h on next month that will be on a vlan that doesn't have internet access, so I'll use a flash drive.
it's just a matter of moving the flash drive from the machine without internet to one with, restarting the client, let it upload the wu, download a new one and then back to the internetless machine to crunch away.
