$50 more for the same performance and twice the heat. Sounds good to me.

PS 3.0 support is worth it. I'd go with the 6800GT.

Almost as big of a diffrence as direct X 8 over direct X 8.1 :o

You will see no real diffrence between ps2 and ps3

    go for the ati.

Less money less heat more value

    Wrong.

HDR lighting isn't available on PS2. PS3 is also faster.

There's a reason all the games out now and upcoming require PS3. Do a little bit of reading.

Valve said any card with direct X 9 support can use hdr  .

You sure you didn't misread that one ?

Edit: Also the benchmarks I saw for farcry ps3 were 2 lower for minimum fps and only 8 higher for max.
  • edited June 2005
Nope. You need PS3. If you read that Valve said that, you read it wrong.

Just did a google all I can find is (radeon x800pro or nvidia 6800 series will be needed)

Goina try the search on the steam forums

edit: btw I managed to find this
    http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/rthdribl/index.html
Its hdr runs fine on my x800pro

    edit:
Valve said that they are working on ATI MAPS which will have 3dc and most likely HDR so dont worry d00ds

    click the quote for link
(its not really evidence but all I could find either way.

It's not true HDR. To get the real effect, you NEED PS3. To use HDR in games, you NEED PS3. Show me a game that uses HDR and doesn't use PS3.

    :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Games require PS3 to use HDR. Period. If you want to see HDR in Half Life 2, Far Cry, Splinter Cell CT, etc.... you need PS3 support.

    Link please
I would really like to see some evidence that hl2 will not support ati cards with hdr.
Ive been googling and have been unable to find any evidence supporting that hdr on hl2 will not support hdr all I can find is it will or a bunch of people on forums aruging.

Check there. I'm hungry and don't feel like arguing about this anyways.

In order to get the real, full effect of HDR in any game (not a spinning ball over a photo in a tech demo) you need PS3. Neither 2 nor 2b can handle it.

Right. So if you want true HDR, you need SM3.

Its still hdr is just a older version of it.

That demo uses ps2 and its hdr (the one linked to in a previous post.)

    Btw:
version-2.0 of Pixel Shader represent real-time true HDR rendering

I went with the eVGA 6800gt due to it temporarily being reduced $14 in price on Newegg.
