Zalman sent me their new heatsink. This puppy is huge and weighs in at 1.6 lbs!

Holy mother of pearl. That thing needs two by fours for support. :eek2:

reviewage coming soon.

I thought the AMD processors had a design specification that the heat sink couldn't be any larger than 1Kg.

    //EDIT:
    from the website:
    * Specified maximum weight for a cooler is 450g for the Intel Pentium 4 and the AMD Athlon 64, and 300g for the AMD Socket 462 CPU. Special care should be taken when moving a computer equipped with a cooler exceeding the weight guideline. Zalman Tech is not responsible for any damage that occurs when moving a computer.

I've been waiting for a review of it on an amd system.

Thrax: It's a 2500rpm fan, and the 2600rpm 92mm Sunons push about 50cfm, so my guess is the zalman does too...

Yar, but the the 92mm sunons are also MUCH thicker fans (38mm). Knowing Zalman, the fan probably pushes a feeble 30.

    Thrax, I actually meant the 92mm Sunon KD1209PTB2-6, which is a 92x92x25mm, 2600rpm fan

To tell you the truth...I'm a little cautious of clamping this dog onto my 3200+ I think I'll be trying it out with my 2500+ system that lays flat.

Nearly 2lbs hanging off the socket kinda makes me go...

    :eek2:

But damn the torpedoes and processors. That's why I blew 3 processors within an hour...ya takes yer chances.

(for the record the three processors blown was with a water cooling review and not Zalman product)

PS...also got the ZALMAN heatpipe VGA cooler which will be kick on my 9700 PRO. :respect:

Dude, I have one! (Mines the ALCU though) That's the heatsink I'm using with my 3200+.

I may be able to offer something to the review, as I had to mod mine so it could fit on my NF7-S board, as by default it will not!

p.s ( I posted some existing reviews of the product in the news forums a couple of days ago, but I too was less than impressed with the more Intel based testing )

Put it onto my wife's new 2200+ (1.8 GHz, not OC'd). Used Ceramique. At full speed, in a closed case w. no fans EXCEPT the HSF and the PS fan, temps ran at about 47-49C under full load (FOLDING). Ambient about 72-75F. With the case open, about 42C. Turning the fan speed to it's minimum resulted in almost no noise decrease (the thing is quiet, no matter what!), an RPM diff. of about 1000, and a rise in temp of about 2C.

Case is a generic ATX midtower, with not a lot of space between the fan and the PS (maybe an inch of headspace). Also, no fans (aside from PS fan) drawing/exhausting from/to outside. With all that, the case is still quiet, the loudest, most noticeable noise being the whine from the 7200 RPM HDD.

And yeah, it is a heavy monster. But, using the thru mobo mounting system that comes with the HSF, it's not really a concern, and I prefer it and consider it more reliable than the clip system we've had to contend with in the past. The screws make pulling the HSF from a processor and reapplying a much less stressful/risky process.

I have been looking at that thing for a few weeks now. I was trying to convince my buddy he needed one. :hrm:

I had no idea it was that heavy. that thing just might pull the Mobo away from the standoffs. :wtf:

I dont have much space between my 80MM fan mod and my PSU so that thing would be tight. But on a lighter note my fan Mod is keeping my CPU at 40C now and around 45C gamed up. :D

Anyone try one of these bad boys on a P4? I'm running 48°c under full load overclocked from 2.6 to 3.0, but wouldn't mind being a bit quiter and even a tad cooler.

    I have the zalman on my p4 2.6c oc'd to 3.1 and it's running

    27c/80f normal
    33c/91f under load

I would HIGHLY reccomend this HS to anyone if they have the space for it. My personal opinion and others who have seen mine think it looks very cool.

Yowch the local shop wants NINETY DOLLARS for the Cu version and $77 for the AlCu. Pass. Even in CanucKBux, that's a fair chunka change.

Even by the time you pay shipping and tax on it, it should be way under $90.

WEIGHT: 580 grams with a Panaflo 92 mm M1 pushing 48 cfm @ 30 dbs (2450 rpm). Mounting hardware top-notch. Almost no threat of breaking MoBo when moving case around.

    'Tis a beautiful heatsink isn't it. :)

    I use the same thing... except with a 92mm Panaflo U1A 70 CFM @ 43 dBA :)

Keto, definately try BigFoot. They've got some decent prices on cooling/mod stuff with extremely cheap shipping (good ol' Canada Post). :)

$90.00 CDN for the Zalman? Pfft. Zalman shmalman...
