Welcome aboard, checkmate! Thanks for joining the team! :D

PS: this guy is really dedicated. He folds offline and takes his computer (which is not portable) to a coffee shop to plug it in just so he can transmit work

Robin: Holy base unit lugging new members Batman, it's Checkmate.

Batman: Since when were we playing chess?

Robin: It's times like this that I wonder why I'm not Batman.

Batman: Me too, but please don't take my King.

Thanx everyone. I'm folding as much as possible.

Let me ask you a question though. If I try to play a fullscreen game while running F@H my computer will minimize the game and bring me to my desktop. I thought that it may have been AVG but when I closed that it was still happening. So, I closed F@H too and the problem is no longer persisting. Could anyone explain to me why this issue occurs?

If you're using the graphical Folding client and playing an OpenGL game, what you describe is not uncommon.

The best thing to do is finish the current WU, uninstall the graphical version, then install the console version of Folding. That made all my problems like that instantly disappear.

If you need help setting up the console, just yell. :)

    Thanx Grayfox

Thanx Profdlp. I should send the WU after I'm finished and then uninstall before or after I get a new WU?

    Anyway.

I'm not sure if this is exactly what's said but this is how I feel. LOL! :D

Basically, you just don't want to uninstall the thing if you're nearing the end of a WU; it would be a shame to waste the points (and more importantly, the data for Stanford's research) if you had one almost finished. Anytime just after a WU is finished and before you get too far into the next one is good.

You want the one marked Windows NT/2000/XP "No-nonsense" text-only console (with built-in Windows-service-install option) 5.02.

Make a new folder in "Program Files" and name it FAH, copy the program you downloaded to it, then double-click it for the install. Make sure you enter your username precisely as it is now and be sure the team # is 93. When you get to the part where it asks if it can run as a service when you restart the computer type Yes. If you have questions about the other stuff just let us know.

There is also a nifty program called Electron Microscope III you can use to monitor your progress. Once you get the console client installed we can help you set that up.

Nice to have you as a teammate.:fold:

Nice to be a teammate. Thanx. I'm looking forward to my first Milestone-lol  lol- It may be a while yet.lol

EDIT: Does the non-graphical client run faster?

So are we - it will come sooner than you think. :)

...Does the non-graphical client run faster?
Yes, somewhat. Running as a system service it won't be starting and stopping if you switch users or log off - if the computer is running you'll be Folding. It also doesn't use up system resources drawing the proteins on the screen like the graphical client does. Add the two together and it will give you a boost in production.

im not sure if the non graphical client runs faster

but if you download trayit and stick the program in your system tray, you can forget its even running

i have found trayit to be useful for minimizing other things to tray aswell

    just a tip

The console version I mentioned doesn't even need trayit. :)

That's a glitch in the system somewhere. The daggone thing showed up about three weeks ago and won't go away...

    What I've tried:

-Deleted the queue.dat file from DoctorB
-Deleted everything in the FAH folder from DoctorB (including the log file)
-Deleted the box from EMIII, then reinstalled it (more times than I want to count)
-Used up all of my Navy words @1#%#!!
-Fiddled around with the files in the EMIII folder

The queue shows nothing except the current WU (all other spots are empty). The only thing I haven't done is uninstall/reinstall EMIII. When I have fewer boxen to reconfigure I'll probably try that.

Gotta get some of these SMx rigs out the door to simplify the job.

I installed the non-graphical client and according to my processes, it isn't running. I restarted my computer and it is still not running. I would have to run it myself and have a window open.

I did. I typed 'yes' instead of 'no'.

Make sure it's not in your list of available services. If it is, set it to "Automatic". If not, follow the instructions below.

Make sure you've done the following:

Make a new folder in Program Files
    Name it FAH
Put the 5.02 "no nonsense" console version you downloaded in it.

Once you've done that, double-click it to run the service installer. Make sure you get your username right and put in 93 as the team.

If you sign on to AIM I will be happy to walk you through it step-by-step. :)
