I never really keep track of how often the power goes out, but the other night it went out 2 or 3 times inside of 2 or 3 minutes. Granted, it was storming pretty hard, and the longest the power was off was a minute, but if I didn't have a UPS all my systems would have been down even if the power was out for a second.
NightShade737 said so what I am saying is a UPS is pointless considering the amount of power outages (we get like, what, 1 every few years?).
Here is a link to a thread over at overclockers.com where one of their team mates built a 6 node Yattamonster. It is controlled by only 2 hard drives with only 1 board acting as the server, with the other 5 nodes running off a network boot. He has posted plenty of pics and has some good links in that thread, if you want to see how stymee did it. Check out the thread for curiosity's sake if nothing else. The workmanship that stymee put into his cluster is awesome.
/me is thinking of how he can make a setup like that.
// Edit: Thinking got me no where. I looked in my driveway, saw my brand new truck, realized "no extra money for computers . . . at least not THAT much extra money!" Oh well, at least I will have sweet dreams tonight
