Need drivers or recovery cd's for Gateway 4026gz

Hi all,

I recently purchased a Gateway 4026gz laptop from Best Buy. Well I finally got around to clearing out the HD and reinstalling Win XP Pro how I like it and without all the extra BS. BUT~~ I never made the recovery CD's like they said to do. I mean, come on!!! I thought I'd have a master CD in the stuff that had the drivers and such. Anyway, no such luck and Gateway support lists the wrong drivers for my model number.

I talked to tech support and they said there isn't anything they can do and that I should have made the recovery CD's. They will send me some new ones for $20. That just PISSES me off to no end!! They can't just email me the missing drivers?? Can't fix their webpage to show the correct drivers??? :shakehead

So, to make a long story...uh...long.... I need the missing drivers and if anyone on this board knows *someone* that has them I'd be very greatful for a copy. Hell, I'd much rather send $20 to someone here than to send it to Gateway. I will NEVER buy another product from them again.

Thanks!

Geoff

    Geoff,

I ran into the same problem that you did, as I quickly determined I wanted to reformat the hard drive to remove the crap and I saw no reason (at the time) to make restore disks of a bunch of programs I did not want.

Go to http://support.gateway.com, enter your laptop's serial number and you will be taken to the page with all of the driver downloads. There are a few drivers listed there that you do not need as the 4026gz does not contain that hardware! Skip the Intel wireless drivers. Most important, skip the Broadcomm wireless drivers as they are OLD and also the wrong drivers! I can guarantee that wireless will NOT work if you use the drivers recommended by Gateway. Instead, go to the HP website and download their Broadcomm drivers for a similar laptop and they will work perfectly. The other downloads from the Gateway site will get you where you need to be and without any problems.

Sorry I cannot be more specific as it has been a few weeks since I went through the problems and I did not keep my notes. I would not send them the $20 as you will be fine once you get past the Broadcomm problem.

Hi, I recently reinstalled a clean version of Windows also. I'm having the same problem, I can not find the right wireless driver. If you could help me it would be great.

You don't need the recovery CD for that, you just need to find out what make and model the Wireless card is.

Infact this applies to all of you, you don't need a recovery disc, you just need to find out the make and model of the specific thing you need the driver for so you can download the driver for that piece of hardware from the actual manufacturers website. Using a Gateway CD will just give you an ancient driver which is a bad idea.

I am brand new to the forum. I too need a recovery disk for my Gateway 4026GZ. I thought I was restoring an application and was really doing a system restore. I did not do the "destructive" but it will not let me return to windows. My options at start are "Boot Menu F10" and "Bios Setting F2" it then goes to "Press F11 to start recovery" under that it says "NTLDR is compressed" then press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart. Can anyone help?

Attention new posters: Icrontic is a computer technology site, forums, and community. I am sorry, but we aren't a store! We can't sell you restore CDs. Please go online to your computer manufacturer's site, look up their contact information, and find out from the original how source how to replace your "restore" CD.

But please, if you'd like to remain a member of Icrontic, you are certainly welcomed! You will find lots of good computer discussions and advice here.

A "recovery" CD is generally just a collection of the drivers you need for the hardware specific to your system.

All the drivers for the 4026gz are on this page. Download and install the ones that you need (assuming you have reinstalled Windows already).

Well gang, I'll post this here. New to the forum so not sure if this is where to post, but I do tech support for MPC and Gateway Pro systems and happened across this forum online, so thought I would throw in my 2 cents worth.

I get around 400 emails each week from Gateway and MPC users looking for drivers, restore cds, and such, and also hear about not getting any support from Gateway.
When MPC went bankrupt and took all Gateway Pro support down with them, it left millions of end users with no support at all.

I decided on my own dime and my own time to recreate the entire MPC support site.
All drivers, chipsets, manuals, bios, and peripheral info that were available on the mpc site are back online. We do tech support by email, and we also have a tech support forum link on the site as well.

I dislike posts in forums like this where you see a post that is an obvious blatant advertising attempt from someone, rather than a forum member trying to help out. So, that having been said, I will mention the address of the website one time just so any of you with Gateway or MPC problems will at least have it.
I don't need advertising, I already have 1st page Google ranking and top of page at that, so don't need to promote my website. Just thought maybe the link would help some of you that don't know about the site.

Now, for those of you requesting driver cds or restore cds, Read this.
First off, you probably don't need to pay someone for a driver cd.
Driver downloads on my site are free, always. Trying to find a restore cd
is next to impossible in most cases as a true restore cd has a Windows OS and cant be resold or transferred.

Yes, I can make a driver cd and mail it out, but why buy one and wait for snail mail when you can download for free?
I do have an occasional viewer that we do one for, if they don't have high speed access, or can't download a 350meg file.
And I do have restore cds for some gateway units, but I don't send them out unless I know the buyer has a licensed Windows key that's legal.
Hope this info is useful to some of you. I don't pop in these forums too often. My tech support forum on the site is busy, and with the mpcdrivers.com website approaching 32,000 pages, not much spare time left, but will try to answer any tech questions at my [link removed by Leonardo]
    address.

Have a great day gang, looks like you have a really good forum here.
