Safe p2p program and...

edited September 2005 in Science & Tech
So before I got my new PC, I was running Limewire PRO for all my dl'ing needs. My question is, are there any other programs out there that would be considered safe? I heard soulseek is fairly good for music..I'm just a bit leary about using another p2p after my last pc got basically fried..Also, I saved the download I had of a program called "style xp" Does anyone else use this and if so, have you had any problems with it?

Thanks,

no p2p is safe...your taking risk....the files you download could be infected, misname, or a virus themsilves...you never know. thats why i dl all my files to a computer that is secure from the others and do a virus scan on all my files.

You're post will probably be edited for rule violations. Nothing is really safe right now. The FBI and MPIAA are being arses and cracking down on everything. They could show up or be tracking IPs in any program.
Open sharing of warez, warez links, serial numbers, key codes, cracks for any and all software will be deleted and is otherwise prohibited. Also, please note that emulators are legal, but the games are only legal if they were distributed by the owner. Discussion of obtaining software illegally through P2P programs is considered a form of warez and will be likewise removed.

Safe p2p is an oxymoron. Actually, every time you open a program where you connect to someone, you're taking a chance. P2P is just more so, since the stuff is illegal.

I won't taint my post by suggesting you one program or another, but I can tell you this: if you're going to be illegal anyway, stay away from mainstream. That means anything, movies, music, programs. The popular stuff is more heavily watched and they'll nail you way faster. Also, mandatory filesharing disclaimer: IF YOU LIKED IT, BUY IT. I do. Seriously. I've spent probably around $100 on music since I've really gotten into downloading it, and it's all stuff I have on the computer. But I still support the people who let me listen to them ;)

    Okay...

how bout this...besides itunes, are there any pay sites where I can download music from legally then, without the fear of viruses and what not?

Hey guys, it's not difficult figuring out what will get you in trouble at Short-Media. As long as your posts are not advocating illegal activity, the S-M staff is happy. P2P programs are perfectly legal. What you do with the legitimate P2P software once it is on your computer, is your business.

Exactly. The programs/sites I would suggest are solely for music - they don't have anything else. So I didn't :)

Heatseeker: MSN Music, Rhapsody, Napster, and I believe Yahoo just launched theirs.
