Help a fellow short-media member! Hurricane Katrina relief for one of our own

One of our own, short-media forum member Justin, has taken a good many refugees into his own home after they were displaced by the hurricane that devastated the Gulf Coast of the southern United States.

If you feel like donating to the Hurricane relief effort, but have not decided where to give your money, goods, or services to, please consider this effort. Justin is requesting any sort of living supplies for about 30 people. He needs everything: food, toiletries, clothing, blankets, you name it.

A good idea would be to send a Walmart or other national department store gift card. It is only the cost of mailing a letter to get it to him, and can be used for exactly what's needed. You can even purchase a walmart gift card directly from their website and have it shipped directly to Justin without having to leave your computer.

Justin's mailing address is:

Hockenhull Family Relief
c/o/ Justin McNichol
204 Miller Court
Stockbridge, GA 30281

If you would rather contact him to see if there's something more specific you can do to help, you can send him a private message on this site.

Thank you!!!!!

Tried the card prime but it wants info I haven't got. It wants State, city and zip, I just put Justins address in as you have it above (don't know if they're in the right boxs but..) then it says it needs his telephone number. Could you let us have an idiots guide to USA mailing address formats?
    Cheers.

    Street address: 204 Miller Court
    City: Stockbridge
    State: GA (Georgia)
    ZIP Code: 30281

I don't know his phone number. I just put junk in that box when I did it. Use 313-555-1212. It's a junk number.

Walmart isn't very helpful if you don't live in the USA. They want a billing address but the only options in the 'state' box are (obviously) in the USA. This make it difficult if you live somewhere else. I presume it's only to send a printed reciept to as the money comes off plastic. I've sent a couple of PMs but it would be useful if there was an address we 'forigners' could use to fill in the order.
edit, I've filled the order in twice now but without a USA address to put in the billing address box I can't proceed!

For anybody who wants to help from outside the USA, it seems the Walmart card isn't an option. Maybe prime could sort out something through paypal?

I sent a card for bothered. He paypal-ed me the money and I ordered the gift card that way.

So justin, when you get two cards at once, one of them is from bothered ;) I put a gift message on there so you would know who sent what

We've got a few refugee relatives here staying until they can get on there feet. They aren't desolate or anything so no need to send a thing. Fortunately the timing was perfect and since we got all new mattresses in last week the old ones now coming in real handy. The FEMA checks are helping them as well.

As for the guys out there trying to hold NO together I wish them luck. My cousin is a police chief out there who took it upon himself to take the day off today (labor day).
He showed up to meet the wife and kids and they were really surprised and happy to see him. He hasn't bathed or shaved in a whole week. Nothing cold to drink or warm to eat. The free hotel room gets to above 100F when he's not on the streets. But worst of all ...the stinch is indescribable. He left to go back there a few minutes ago after we all sat around and ate ice cream and shot the bull. He announced that FEMA promised the police force that if they stick it out they will be sent on a payed vacation to Las Vegas. Not sure of all of the details yet but from what he describes the incentive doesn't even faze them. They all just want it to be over ...there is no light at the end of the tunnel for New Orleans I'm afraid.

Justin that's a mighty noble thing you're doing my friend. Have you met a single adult from that area that wants to "go home"? Not likely.

    God bless.

Hey all, sorry I didn't post on this thread as well but I just wanted to send out a big thank you to all of you who helped out this family. As an update, most of them have relocated throughout the southeast, a few wen back to Gulfport to a shell of a town. I cannot do their descriptions justice here with words but I can tell you that this sites generosity (I think that is how it's spelled) gave them the momentum that they needed to get back on their feet. I could never thank you all enough for what you have done but please know that you made a true difference in so many lives. You guys (and gals) rock!!!

Suggested thank you gesture from them, but certainly not required:

install folding on a home computer or register and post a 'hello' here at S-M

Just something simple, cost-free, and personal.

Of course, your follow-up in this thread is very satisfying. Thank you for the opportunity to provide targeted help.
