New system on it's way
I just got off of newegg ordering the rest of my parts for my new system I will be putting together. Here are all my components.
cpu - 1700+
Hs/f - slk 800 with a thermaltake smart fan
motherboard - NF7s 2.0
ram - Kingston HyperX pc3200 2x256 sticks
psu - Antec TruePower 430w
video card - Sapphire Radeon 9000 128mb ddr ( I know I know, I will get a lot of flames on this one, but I do no gaming on my pc so the video card isn't important )
Case - Black Chenmin pre-modded with side window
Black ide round cables
hdd - WD 7200 80gb
optical drives - Lite-on cdrw
I think that is about it, now I got to wait for the Fed-Ex man to come to the door
Oh and I also ordered the new parts for the family computer I'm putting together, which will also be fitted with a 1700+
:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: I just realized that I forgot to order a new psu for my backup rig, well newegg shore is going to love me, haha

Why? The 9000 is a sort-of crippled 8500, but it's still a very good card. I've got an 8500 in my dually still. I mean, that 8500, coupled with a 2.5GHz barton, can do 13k+ in 3dmark2001se (@ 330 core/305 memory or thereabouts), which puts it in the same league as a Ti4600. The 9000 isn't that fast, but if you're not gaming, it's still an excellent card.
The Radeon 9000? Well... at least it isn't integrated video
Hallelujah.
You could save money by picking up some Buffalo Technology 512 mb 6 layer pc3700 ddr memory. I have heard of these modules reaching 245 fsb on a nf7 board. Of course to reach this speed on an nf7 board you would need a volt mod + watercooling most likely. Price is only $104 w/ shipping so you could save yourself a nice $23, unless you're dying for dual channel mode.
With the processor I would recommend getting a 2100, because recently if you read the reviews at newegg many people are complaining about receiving tbred a's. If you are overclocking your computer you're taking the chance of getting something that maxes out at 1.9-2.0. Really you have no reason to have any trust in newegg. They do not guarantee tbred-b's and the reviews as of late have been cluttered with people receiving tbred-a's.
I'm sure this is all too late, but these are a few things to think about...
I am thinking about building a similar one for a friend...
What was the total cost if you dont mind me asking?
Formfactor: I don't know the exact price of components I have been collecting for about 3 months now, I just ordered the main parts a couple of days ago. But here is a rough estimate
case - $85 I think
psu - I think it was like $7, I had a $75 gift certificate from amazon.com so that is where I got it from, hehe what a steal
cpu - like $55
Fdd - $11
cd-rw - $45
video card - $66
mobo - $113 from excaliberpc.com
ram - $128 directly from kingston
hs/f - about $60 I guess for heatsink and fan
hdd - just one I had $0
about $570, basically beacuase I got the psu for near to nothing, I think I had to only pay shipping
