mcafee and memory!

edited October 2005 in Science & Tech
Man, I have been running this anti virus software for sometime but today I researched all the running processes on my machine and like 6 are from mcafee! I ONLY run the antivirus. Takes up some serious memory!

I looked at the poll, lots seem to like norton but is it as memory intensive when just sitting idle?

    Hi,

I've never used McAfee before but i'm sure it uses a lot of mem.

On the other hand, i've used Norton and I don't know how much memory it used cause I never checked but I can tell you that it uses a lot of CPU resources that slows down any machine.

If your thinking about chucking McAfee away then here is my advice:

Don't get McAfee or Norton, instead save your money and get AVG Free Edition. Majority of members on this forum use AVG, including myself and it is great plus its FREE :D

    Hope that helps

Trogan is right. AVG uses minimal system resources as compared to McAfee or Norton. Starting a couple years ago, I've been converting my computers and relatives' computers over to AVG. I don't see that there has been any degradation of security for any of these machines.
