Laptop Performance

Hey all,

In a previous thread I stated I was wanting to speed up my Lappy for folding purposes. Now Ive deleted alot nonessential files and Im in the process of defraging, is there anything else I can do to make it quicker? Also willing to by some parts if needed.

specs:HP dv1310
Celeron M 1.5g
512 mem
60 gig HD

u need 1 gig of ram on that lappy but my guess is you dont have any open slots

At this point, I'm not sure if hardware upgrades to your laptop would justify the cost. Laptop hardware is very expensive relative to desktop hardware. But let's start with software. What programs do you have running in the background? Do you know how to do a screenshot? (Sorry, I don't know your computer proficiency. Please don't infer I'm being condescending.)

Perform Ctrl-Alt-Del, select the Processes tab, screenshot, and post. We'll see if there is CPU and/or memory hogging programs running in the background that we can turn off.

I got a P4 2.8 with 1gig ram and a 7200rpm 40gig laptop drive and now its as fast or faster than my desktop. Cant game on it because its crappy onboard graphics but for everything else it roxors

Yea I have personally used his lappy, It needs 1 gig its kinda sluggish. There isnt much more he can do except Tweak windows

the HD is dog slow (4200 rpm) upgrading it to a 7200 rpm 2.5 drive should only cost you about 150-200 dollers

the max memory(according to HP is 2 gig)so and upgrade is possible

Thanks for the info gibbons, hopefully later I can get some new hardware, but for now software speed looks like the only option(in school with a part time job,no money :bawling: lol)

if you are doing this for folding purpose, that is only CPU limited

software for folding has to be tweaked

that is out of my area of expertise

some other people here can chime in on that area

You can safely disbale more things on startup if you want. Just keep your Anti-Virus and apps you want, such as MSN Messenger etc enabled.

I have everything disabled on startup accept for those mentioned above on a laptop and desktop pc.

EDIT: Your laptop specs are much better than mine, so I can't see much wrong with them. Its your choice if you want to upgrade or not
