alright, this is my question

i am getting a wireless router, right now i have dsl so i have a little box that hooks into my comp via ethernet cable, pretty simple

now to connect to net i gotta make a connection, by going to make high speed connection. if you dont know what i mean heres a pic

[desktop screenshot pending]

so now, when i took the dsl box into router instead of pc, and then the router goes into comp. how am i gonna make the connection?

With a router, you dont need to make a connection as the internet is always connected to the internet.

Take the telephone lead from the DSL modem and connect it to the router. Then, connect the ethernet cable between the router and PC. :)

I hope that answers your question :)

you mean the ethernet cable form dsl box right,

like on my dsl box it has a telephone wire coming otu that goes into jack in walla nd a ethernet cable coming out that goes into comp, so instead of going into comp it goes into the router right? than the router into comp? and it will always be connected?

but i need enter a username and pass when i connect to net, how will my router know that stuff?

sorry if thier dumb questions but ive never used a router before.

Phone line from wall to modem.
Ethernet cable from modem to router.
Ethernet cable from router to PC.

Configuring the router for PPPoE authentication, directions with your router's manual, will let you enter user/pass.

    Do what thrax said :)

If your router has a built-in modem then, your modem doesn't need to connect to the router. :)

Call me a what you want but I phoned the Belkin techs to help configure my router the first time :D

Bone, once you dive into the manual, you will find it's much easier than you thought. Also, if you get stuck, I'm sure your ISP's help desk will assist you.

I have removed the desktop link in your post above. Reason: for your security. Your user name is clearly visible. You can put it right back if you wish, but I recommend a screenshot without your user name!

Just a bit of FYI for a newbie such as yourself, I've run into this countless numbers of times. Wireless networks run at 2.4 ghz mostly, unfortunatly so do a lot of wireless phones. Check if you have one and my suggestion if you do is go ahead and replace it with either a 900 mhz or a 5.2? ghz phone that doesn't share the same band. Otherwise you'll be playing along happy and giddy and the phone will ring and you'll be disconnected LOL.

Happend to my boss, "well i swear it was working a second ago, right before i called you" ROFLOL
