pop ups and horrors

Hi , I am new to forum. Have read through some threads and have sorted some problems out.

My laptop usues dial up modem. I have had serious popup page and virus problems since a friend used the pc (silly me).

I have run Spy bot S&D and it had LSA references to msdirectx. Also many windows services for antivirus disable, antivirus override, firewall disable notify, sp2 stop, update disable notify .

Ad aware had IGET miner which was removed.

AVG threw up 30 virus references which I had thought were removed the last time I ran it manually. I lost the list but they included collect 5.l etc.

The following is the log file from HJT.

Can anyone please help me clear out the pop ups (which have happened several time during this thread typing) and the AVG references to viruses. BTW they seemed to refer to A000#####.exe files # being numbers. I will write it all down next time.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks

John

    Hi and welcome to Short-Media forums :).

    Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

    http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
    http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

    Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

    IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so! This Fix must NOT be run in safe mode for it to work.

    if you receive, while running option #1, an error similar like: ''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
    C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."...then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.

    BTW last night I ran adaware, spybot S&D and AVG and seemed pretty clean. But I still get pop ups happening when I am connected to net. They seem to be popster sites, and a site that says its not available in my geographic location.

    I hope I have the viruses gone, but you will know better than me!

    Again thank you for helping.

    Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

    From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter. It will process then start. Your desktop and icons will disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, it will be ready for a reboot. Press any key to reboot. After the reboot notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

    IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so! Do Not run in safe mode!!
    If after the reboot the log does not open double click on it in the l2mfix folder.

    Can you please do the following.

    ===============

    Go to the Start button then into Run. Type in services.msc and look for the following service; tsecure Stop this service, then disable it.

    ==

    Run HiJackThis, click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

    O1 - Hosts: indows.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Compaq32 Service Drivers] msconfig32.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Compaq32 Service Drivers] msconfig32.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [Compaq32 Service Drivers] msconfig32.exe
    O4 - Global Startup: hp psc 1000 series.lnk = ?
    O4 - Global Startup: hpoddt01.exe.lnk = ?

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: StillImage - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mvj2l91o1.dll (file missing)

    O23 - Service: tsecure - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\tsecure.exe

    Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

    ===============

    Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure you are able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

    files...

    C:\WINDOWS\tsecure.exe

    Search for...

    msconfig32.exe

    ...using "Start | Search...".

    -

    Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in "Safe Mode".

    -

    Reboot.

    ===============

    After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and check that those entries are gone.

    Are you getting any other messages when running L2MFix option #2? If you are, before rebooting, can you take a screenshot of it and attach it to your reply please.

    Post another hijackthis log too please.

    Was that the complete L2M log? Looks a little short. Have a look in the L2M folder and check the log there please. It doesn't look like the fix worked.

    Yes that was the complete log.

    do you want me to start fresh and follow the thread from start now that we have new l2mfix? Or run l2mfix using 1 ??

    BTW ADV anti virus is running......should I stop this when doing l2mfix?

    Let's try running option #1 first and see what the log looks like. AV's should not affect it, but may, so it might be a good idea to disable it when running L2M Fix.

    have already run adaware and spybot just now, waiting for adv to complete.

    No problems in adaware or spybot.

    I will do as you suggest in next few minutes and send log.

    while adv is completing.

    a bit of background.

    when the laptop got infected with heaps of viruses and all the pop ups, it was XP Home first edition.

    Kept running ADV and removing viruses and then they would reapear next run etc etc.

    So I upgraded the pc to XP Home 2002 SP2 to stop some of the backdooring etc.

    That is the setup of the pc when I stated this thread.

    I downloaded Adaware and Spybot and HighJack and ran them before I started the thread.

    Once I had upgraded to SP2 Home 2002 once I have removed the viruses with ADV they have not reapeared.

    This background may be useless info , but anything might handy in this instance.

    Logs etc to follow.
