Corrupted Registry?
My computer crashed and burned on new year's. I spent 2.5 hours with tech support on the phone trying to get it working again. It completely froze and would sometimes do so even before we could get it into safe mode! The lady had me restore the system and told me to install Norton and run it before I did anything else. Well, me not really knowing much about computer issues, figured that if I did the antivirus thing relatively soon it wouldn't be a big deal. So I went online in the quest to get my stuff all back in order and I got a message that popped up saying my registry was corrupted, to download this program adn fix it... Sure enough, it found like 30 errors, but you had to pay for the program before it would fix anything. The tech lady actually called me back to see how my machine was working and I told her about the error messages I was getting. She explained that I needed to do the Norton thing DIRECTLY after restoring the system. So I went shopping and came back, restored the system and installed Norton before anything. Norton says my system is fine. I still get the messages that my registry is corrupted. I rescanned using Norton. Nothing. Also, my system seems to be running a bit slower than it usually did, which seemed weird to me because everything was wiped off of it and is like a machine fresh from the store again. So I checked the task manager to see what was running and all that stuff and there's a HUGE list of stuff going. I have no clue what is supposed to be there and what isn't, since most of it seems like gobbledy gook, rather than close to a name of something I know.
I did a little research through some old threads here to see if there was anything that I could do before asking a question someone else already asked. Is this something that I'm going to have to do the Hijack This Log (or whatever its called) for? Or is there something more appropriate to do (like just go ahead and purchase the damn software that found the errors and will fix it)? I also read the thread here about what to do before posting a hijack this log. I'm going to go and check out the adaware and the search and destroy stuff and run them and stuff, provided they're free downloads that will fix the issues without purchasing something (yeah... I'm a poor student and I'm living on credit until my student loan check comes in, so I'm trying not to spend money unless its absolutely necessary). If I DO need to pay for those programs to do their magic, I want to be sure that it will fix my issue before I do it.
What do you guys suggest?

For simplicity's sake, I copied and pasted the summary of my original issue.

As I said, I ran the Adaware and spybot and the messages saying my registry is corrputed just showed up again. Now what?
First off, NEVER, EVER click on a popup from the internet saying there is something wrong with your PC. Those popups cause more harm then good. I hope you did not purchase that software.
Go here and download a program called HijackThis (HJT)
Create a folder in your C: and call it HJT
Save and unzip HJT to your new folder
Create a log and post it here and we'll see what we can do

What is telling you your Registry is Corrupt?

Let do some further cleaning.
Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.
Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml
Once in Safe Mode, please run Ewido (Do not use the computer while Ewido is scanning as it may interrupt the scan)
- Click on scanner
- Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
- NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
- You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
- If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
- DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
- If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
- When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
- Save the report to your desktop
Close EwidoRestart your computer in normal mode
Run this online scan. Let it remove whatever possible. Make a note of any files that could not be removed.

Make sure you tick Disinfect automatically under Scan Options.

A number of things were removed. I then went to Panda and did their online scan. There wasn't an option to disinfect automatically that I could find. It only had a button to learn about disinfection options or something along those lines. Clicking it said to buy their software or try a free 30 day trial. I made a bad mistake and downloaded the trial. I'll get to that later, here's the log from the online panda scan.

So I installed the panda trial download and ran the scan. It found 6 bad things and like was suggested, I deleted them all. It wouldn't let me save a scan or anything, so I wrote down what the scan window read.
C:\WINDOWS\System32\co...\install[1].exe
C:\hp\bin\Terminator.exe
C:\hp\bin\KillIt.exe
C:\hp\bin\FondleWindow.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Install[1].exe
The last one was listed twice.
After that things wouldn't work. Norton had somehow closed. Yahoo Messenger wouldn't connect. I couldn't open a web browser. While I was waiting for the window to open, I checked the task manager to see what was going on. There were zero applications running. Ewido had been running and I wondered if there was some sort of incompatibility between that and panda that was mucking htings up. I closed Ewido and changed all the settings on Panda to not protect for anything. I still couldn't get online. I tried to close the program and coudlnt' figure out how. Right clicking on the icon in the tray didn't do anything and I wasn't able to find a way to close the program in the working window. I decided that Panda was the issue so I did what I could to uninstall it. It took forever to uninstall and a few windows popped up in spanish that I think said something about impossible to close (I remembered cerrado from Sesame Street *L*). Eventually it got through the uninstall, but the opening display when Panda is opened wouldn't go away. Everything was running terribly slow though the task manager didn't indicate anything was going on. I tried a number of times to shut the computer down using the start menu, but it wouldn't work. I gave up and turned it off manually. When I turned it back on, I was able to get online again and it doesn't look like Panda is there anymore (though who knows what it left behind).
An interesting note: After I had my system restored, everything on the screen seemed bigger and I couldn't figure out a way to get it back to the regular size it was. After running Ewido and restarting, everything was back to the size it was before all this mess happened.
I apologize for creating more problems! Would tossing the damn thing out a three story window fix things? *LOL*
Thank you for your patience and help!!!
Could you post a new HJT log please.
What problems are still having?
