Having touble with Windows Installer

Having trouble installing new programs on my laptop. Keep getting error messages like "iKernel.exe not found" or "Windows Installer Service cou;ld not be accessed. "

How can I fix this?

    Make sure that the Windows Installer Service is not disabled. The information found here may be helpful, too. :)

    Good find profdlp. Wish I knew this a month ago. I have a friend that had this problem and he ended up doing a format. I will send him this url for future use...thanks...

    Yes I did, and everything it suggests seems fine. The registry looks clean. Still not working though.....

    Guys, still having a hard time with this. how do I chack to see if windows installer is working?

    Try downloading Windows Installer 3.1 (v2), install it, reboot, then give it another go.

    Reinstalled Windows Istaller and the problem persists....

    What are the programs giving you trouble when you go to install them?

    Another thing, are you closing all background programs first? Try that, and make sure you temporarily disable any anti-virus program you have running. (Don't forget to turn it back on!)
