My X2 isn't being used to it's max potential?

Right now it's only utilizing like 53% of my CPU, I wouldn't ask this normally becuase F@H uses ALOT of my memory, but at least I have 2 GB.... I am sitting at 325MB used right now.

But anyways, how do I get F@H to use all my CPU power? I just wanna have it set and forget about it. Which is why I am just now asking this becuase I guess I could do more to help while my computer is running :P

I know I tried looking this up a while back, but was just plain confused with what I found.

    I'm not an expert (still waiting on my dual core to arrive) but have you set the affinity for the folding processes? if you get to task manager and look at the process list you should be able to set the affinity for each folding process (possibly by right clicking on the process). Affinity determines which core the process runs on, I'm thinking maybe you're running both processes on the same core?

    Gives an error trying to set affinity...

    I also wanna mention that while I am investingating this as I cannot seem to find a single answer, that it appears like either it's not actually doing anything right now but utilizing my processor for no reason or going EXTREMMLY slow. I am looking at my stats and they don't seem to be going anywhere. I think I was at 50K about 6 months ago and I've been folding with at least one processor since.

    If it's an X2, why aren't you running two instances of Folding. It would appear you've got one core napping, with the other core pumping iron. On an HT Pentium rig with HT turned on, if you only run one instance of Folding, it will show 50% CPU utilization.

    So I need a completely separate installation of F2H runnig with my old install to have two running at the same time?

    So I just created two directories, F@H1 and F@H2 on my drive. I setup the first one and once I saw my CPU goto 50% I setup the second one. But instead of running the two instances, it just seems to close the one from before and still run one at a time!

    grrrr.

    Do it like this.
    • Create a folder in C: named Folding@Home
    • Then create 2 new folders in that with one nemed F@H1 and the other F@H2
    • Then copy a console client to each folder and set each independantly with the client in folder 1 as "machine ID = 1 and in folder 2 as machine ID = 2 and set each to run as a service
    • When you restart your machine each will run automaticly with the proper processor affinity.

    How do I do that Machine ID thing?

    Check taskmanager to see if you are using 100%.
    You can also set a limit to the amount of mem they will use. I have mine set to 32mb each and they don't come anywhere near that.
    Your best bet with the X2 will be at folding tinkers ...so set no flags and get all the tinkers you like.

    yeah it's pretty much default, it's how I've always folded becuase I just don't wanna deal with it.

    How do I set how much memory I wanna use?

    Well you could run the client from a shortcut in configonly mode and it wouldn't interfere with the current run in process ...just make a shortcut and add the -configonly flag at the end. You'll have to go into the advanced changes and it's one of the last questions asked.

    Or ...LOL

    You could do the quick and dirty way like I do ...just edit the client.cfg and restart the client.

    [settings]
    username=csimon
    team=93
    asknet=no
    bigpackets=yes
    machineid=1
    local=30

    [http]
    active=no
    host=localhost
    port=8080
    usereg=no

    [core]
    checkpoint=30
    ignoredeadlines=yes

    [clienttype]
    memory=32
    type=2

    This is only included in the 502beta and beyond and may not even be there if you never ran the confg for it in the first place ...like if you continued using and old config from and older console.

    I'm assuning you are running the console and the 502beta. Are you configured as a service?

    I downloaded the 504 Console with the service install included.

    I'm sorry ...I meant the 504beta. I've been preoccupied and a little out of touch.:thumbsup:
    Open your client.cfg with notepad and see if you have that line in there for that setting.

    I added it, thanks. It looks a bit different from what you showed me, it had those blocks inplace of spaces and line breaks. But I delt with it my own way..... copy and paste :P

    The most important thing with dual instances of Folding on the same computer is to make sure that each has a different machine identity in the "config" file.

    Yeah those blocks and all must stay in place. I should have warned you first sorry for that. Here is a pic of mine. I just highlight the exact number or name I want to replace and retype it.
    Always restart the client to get the new config to take effect.
