I was just wondering if anyone here is planing on playing D&D Online or RF Online. I know they both come out around the end of the month and I havent quite decided what I want to play.
I was a huge pen and paper dungeons and dragons geek , so I'll have to give it a shot probably. I'll wait and see what people say after release though, I'm pretty content with WoW.
I too was a VERY big AD&D guy until about 4 years ago. I became too busy with family and work as did my group of friends....
I DID buy my copy of DDO last week. It is my first MMORPG. I ran the BETA version and I liked it VERY much. I've been told that it's not as good as WOW but not because of the graphics but because it is really a "Team" game.
d&d is way to involved combat style, makes it basically impossible to double or tripple box, havent seen too much on rf. eq2 expansion comes out 24th i think
I have played the beta of DDO for a month and ven though it's the first mmorpg game i have played, i'm totally hooked. Head-start playing starts tomorrow and i'll be damned if i ain't gonna be the first to log on. For kicks, i tried WOW for 10 days and i don't think i have played a worse game in my life. It's just cartoon. One huge instance where you soend most fo the time. I want action in real dungeons.
Ah..... I never thought about the head-start being different for different regions... sorry dude. h, and your beta char is gone, or at least mine were. :shakehead:
Is DDO worthwhile? I have read a lot of neagative comments on user boards, but the could have all been WOW fanboys. What is your honest take on the game?
OK... I've never played any MMORP, so my experience is limited. I had almost 20 years of AD&D so I REALLY love DD) so far. Nothing has really been bad. So slowness in public areas.... slow progression, but the adventures are engaging enough to make going through them, several times, fun.
I've played 10 characters, or so, all to about 2nd level. I know I've only touched some of the stuff. I like the rogues, rangers, barbarians.... Not too keen on the magic types but I have never been to keen on that.
Don't buy it if you want to run around for long periods of time by yourself... it will be an experience on how to die.... you need to be willing to actively find a party or make your own. You don't have to like them, just be able to work with them.
BTW... I'm on the Ghallanda. Elven Rogue/Ranger... level 1/1. He rocks but is bald, like ME!!!
May be fun, but it depends if Dragons are in it or not, if they are then I probably won't be playing.
I think dragons are the best part of MMO's. I still remember playing Everquest the first time I fought Naggy and that damn ice dragon (I cant remember the name). It was such a good time. Shoot now I want to start playing EQ1 again...

After the way Turbine has behaved in the past I would not play anything from them if they paid ME a monthly fee.
To make major changes to the way a class or character resulting in a major NERF and playstyle change over 2 years after a game had gone live and then say "It is what we always intended the class to be" is totally inexcusable. They did this in Asheron's Call several times.
Then in AC2 they made all kinds of promises in writing and then didn't deliver. Then said they never said those things. AC2 was one NERF after another. Week to week. Changes were so severe that they were always refunding your talent, class points and you were having to completely retrain your character almost weekly. Of course AC2 has died completely.
The main guy that was behind this behaviour has moved on to Horizons where he continued his style of management. This game is barely hanging on. I wasted a lot of time and money since I have maxed out characters on all 3 games.
My reading of reviews of D&D says they still haven't learned. Everything requires a group, thus locking out a major portion of the market. There are many solo gamers (myself included) who don't like to group up with 12 year old twitch players so they can ruin my game time.
I currently play WOW and have several max level characters and do some PVP. It's not the perfect MMORPG, but they do balance well and nerf very little. First game I've seen a decent (not perfect) balance. I will never give Turbine another penney of mine though.
Nu dragons for the first 10 levels at least. Lots of Goblins, Troglodytes, undead and Kobolds. The fun part is to do the quests on hard/elite. You really have to think on what you are doing on Elite. I have heard about Turbine before, but so far, it works very good. One or 2 bugs is still there, but nothing major.

Still on Lyrandar btw, lvl 5 Dwarfen Fighter.
Lyrandar, eh? I'll see you on the battlegrounds then Just got it. RF looks interesting as well, but D&D's always rocks. Haven't made a char yet.
