    I am working on that right now, but I have a problem. The damned XBOX DVD-ROM is dead, which is why I am wanting Linux on it since it is relativly worthless.

    Wuggsy:

    It's a 733mhz Celeron - a decent folding machine.

    Plus, every little bit helps, bro.

    It is a Celery... sadly, but then again, that is no big deal for the machine for F@H.

    It runs 733MHz, not 300Mhz LOL!!!!

    just researched it, apparently it's neither, hahah
    The Xbox CPU has S-spec of SL5SN. No Intel CPU for PC has that exact same S-spec. The closest match is a 479-ball Micro-FCBGA 733MHz (133MHz system bus) mobile Celeron with S-spec of SL5SP. Since there is no exact match for an Intel PC CPU, the Xbox CPU is simply an Intel 733MHz CPU with 128KB L2 cache and 133MHz system bus. Pentium III and Celeron processors are very similar.

    P3 = Ok
    Celeron = Suck
    Mobile Celeron = Big Suck

    Oh, and it may not be a good idea to run folding on an X-box unless you want to it burst into Flames.........

    I was actually thinking that as well when i read your post. I´m not sure that xbox can take the heat 24/7. It´s not built for that.

    It overheats while playing games normally if not in a well ventilated place. Unless you mod your X-Box I think you will return to it to find it is now a bubbling black blob on the floor :shakehead

    haha, i can just imagine the cooling mods people are thinking of right now...

    "hrmmm, a 120mm blowhole and fan here, 80mm blowhole and fan there, copper heatsink on this chipset, water cooling for the processor..."

    /me hears a dremel in the distance....

    d'oh....i thought it was a 300mhz machine....then yeah i suppose it is worth it...but the cooling solutions for it cant be all too grand

    If there was a client ported to PS2 using PSlinux it should do well. It uses a 128bit 300mhz cpu strangely at that low of a speed it produces 6.2mflop I believe that a good deal more than opterons.

    I've always wanted to make my PS2 fold, but that dang Linux kit isn't cheap. And the 32-bit Linux client probably wouldn't run on it. But, there's a community out there for PS2 Linux, I wonder if soneone has thought about taking a porting project up?

    yea PS2 only runs on PSlinux but I don't see why you couldn't cross compile any distro you want to PS2 if you knew what cflags to use. I think the linux kit isn't a bad price considering what all you get but what would be great is they came up with a LTSP kernel for PS2. you wouldn't need the kit at all just do a netboot from your computer but of course that mean you would have to be running linux and you wouldn't have a keyboard or mouse on the PS2's but you wouldn't really need one.

    I think that a custom client would have to be written for the PS2.

    The processor in the XBoX isn't a Celeron OR PIII, it's a little bit of both, but for the life of me I can't remember exactly HOW it's a little bit of both.

    It is classified as a Celeron though... so....... no one who said it was a Celeron is wrong either ;)
