I ran Kill2Me But it did not do the job. I have instructions on how to remove it manually, but it will not let me type in REGEDIT on "RUN".
It says the following:

Window Title: 16bit MS-DOS Subsystem
Body of error message: C:\Windows\system32\REGEDIT.com
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS:0548 IP:0102 OP:ff ff 8a c4 86 Choose "close" to terminate the application.

Hi. I would like you to try the below again. This time even if it doesn't work, please post the log that it generates so I can try to see why it's not working.

Please download Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to your desktop.
    • Close all windows before continuing.
    • Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.
    • Put a check next to Run this program as a task.
    • You will receive a message saying Look2Me-Destroyer will close and re-open in approximately 10 seconds. Click OK
    • When Look2Me-Destroyer re-opens, click the Scan for L2M button, your desktop icons will disappear, this is normal.
    • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove L2M button.
    • You will receive a Done Scanning message, click OK.
    • When completed, you will receive this message: Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Destroyer will now shutdown your computer, click OK.
    • Your computer will then shutdown.
    • Turn your computer back on.
    • Please post the contents of C:\Look2Me-Destroyer.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

If you receive a message from your firewall about this program accessing the internet please allow it.

If you receive a runtime error '339' please download MSWINSCK.OCX from the link below and place it in your C:\Windows\System32 Directory.

If you look at my HJT log you will see that second to last there is a SONY thing. Can I take it off?
I believe it was from the MP3 player my friend wanted me to put music into. When I uninstalled the program some random ramdom Sony window kept popping up, and still does.

    Here is the Ewido Report.

I have some tracking cookies...How can I get rid of these permanently?

Yes the tracking cookies can go and the Look2Me is gone as well this time. Good Job

Now run Hijack This again and put a check (tick) next to the following entries:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = about:blank
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust...search/ie.html

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust.../www.yahoo.com
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

Close all other browser/windows and click Fix Checked. Close Hijack This, reboot the PC and post another Hijack This log.

OK, now one more thing. Please download LSPFix from here. Unzip the application to your desktop. Next run the program. It will open a window that has 2 panes within it. Check the box that says "I know what I'm doing". On the left hand pane please look for all instances of this file:

    newdotnet6_38.dll

If found highlight each instance and click the remove button. The file will now appear on the right hand pane. Once you have moved each instance of this file to the right pane click finish. Close the program, restart the PC and post a new Hijack This log. Please note Do Not remove any other files from the left hand pane except those I asked you to remove.

    I want to make sure.
    I found the following three:

    mswsock.dll [Tcpip]
    winrnr.dll [NTDS]
    rsvpsp.dll [Protocal handler]

    Should I removed these three?
  • skywalker45skywalker45 Bloomington, IN. USA
    edited April 2006
No don't remove those. Only remove this one: newdotnet6_38.dll. If it's not there that's OK, just exit the program. Hijack This normally won't fix 010 entries but let's try it anyway. Run Hijack This again and put a check next to the following:

O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'c:\program files\newdotnet\newdotnet6_38.dll' missing

Close all other browsers/windows and click Fix Checked. Close Hijack This, reboot the PC and post another log.

Like I said Hijack This might not fix the 010 entry and if we're not finding that file with LSPFix then we're probably not going to worry about it. You might also want to look in this folder:

    C:\Program Files

and look to see if there is a folder there named newdotnet. If there is delete the entire folder.

It did not fix it. It said to use LSPFix.

I also looked for the newdotnet folder and it was not present iether.

And you didn't find that file using LSPFix right? In that case we're probably just going to let it go. It's not compromising the system and that's what's important. In any case use the windows search feature to look for the folder newdotnet and be sure to include hidden files and folders in your search. If you find it delete it, if you don't then don't worry about it. How is your PC running?

The laptop is working well. I try to keep it running smooth.

I looked in "Search" for the Folder, but I got nothing.

I don't know how to make it show hidden files as well. What do I change?

Ok...I see it...and it[newdotnet6_38.dll] is on the right pane, under "REMOVE."

That is where it is suppose to be right?

    What now?

Yes that's where it's supposed to be. Now click Finish. You might be prompted to restart your PC after that. Even if LSPFix doesn't prompt you, restart anyway and post a new Hijack This log.

Good, I am glad to hear that.
    Your Rock, Thanks a million.

When I start my computer and get online it takes longer to start Firefox. But I think that is because of ZoneAlarm.

    One last thing...

    Can I Fix this one:

    O23 - Service: Sony SPTI Service (SPTISRV) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sony Shared\AVLib\SPTISRV.exe (file missing)

I don't have anything by Sony...except for the program i deleted for the MP3 player.

Yes you can get rid of not only that one but also these:

    O23 - Service: MSCSPTISRV - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sony Shared\AVLib\MSCSPTISRV.exe (file missing)
    O23 - Service: PACSPTISVR - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sony Shared\AVLib\PACSPTISVR.exe (file missing)

Let me know if you want to get rid of all 3 of them and I'll walk you through it. We have to actually stop the services first and then fix with Hijack This. It's easy though.

OK. Here we go. Click Start--->Run. In the box type services.msc and press enter. A window will appear showing services currently running. Click on the extended tab at the bottom. In the right hand pane look for the following services:

    MSCSPTISRV
    PACSPTISVR
    Sony SPTI Service (SPTISRV)

Now highlight them (you have to do them one at a time). Right click on one and click properties. In the window dialog that pops up click stop then click apply. Next right click on the same one again and click properties. In the middle is a field that says startup type. Click the arrow at the right and choose disabled. Do this for each of the three services. Once that's done run Hijack This again and put a check (tick) next to the following:

    O23 - Service: MSCSPTISRV - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sony Shared\AVLib\MSCSPTISRV.exe (file missing)
    O23 - Service: PACSPTISVR - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sony Shared\AVLib\PACSPTISVR.exe (file missing)
    O23 - Service: Sony SPTI Service (SPTISRV) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sony Shared\AVLib\SPTISRV.exe (file missing)

Close all other browsers/windows and click Fix Checked. Close Hijack This. Using Windows Explorer delete the following (it might not exist):

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sony Shared<----This folder.

Reboot the PC and post another Hijack This log.

That's OK. Did their folder exist? If not then it is likely that they won't ever start again after you disabled them. Your log looks great! Is there anything else you're having trouble with?

I tried deleting the folder and it will not let me...

    It says the following:

    ERROR DELETING FILE OR FOLDER
    Cannot delete EA3FringeLib.dll:Access Denied.
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected
and that the file is not currently in use.

I don't know what that file even is.

It might be best to try to delete the folder in safe mode. It's true that you don't use any of the Sony stuff anymore, correct? Try deleting in safe mode. If it won't let you then it could be that some of the files are tied to protected operating system files and won't delete. Only a clean uninstall of the program would delete them. In my opinion at that point I wouldn't worry about it. Let me know what you find.
