I think I deleted a process...

I had to remove some running processes and I think I made a boo-boo. Here's a summary of my system's abilities. I'd do a restore but I've done a lot of installing of software since I messed with my processes since I didn't notice the problem until ~3weeks after I had made the changes.

What my system can still do
-connect to the web using Firefox
-play games online
-DL videos/music etc... from the web

What my system can't do anymore
-connect to the web using IE
-access the web through software (steam, WoW loader etc...)
-connect to AIM
-install software that requires the installer to contact a site
-Dowload patches for games that automatically DL contents (autoassault, EQ type patching)
-Download information from CS:S servers such as new maps or sound files.

Here is a pic of what I get attached.

Can you give me what processes that you run on your box and also what OS your running. Also go to run and type: msconfig. Then select Normal Startup then apply and restart. If this does nothing, then try Safe Mode with Networking and try to use IE, etc. If it works right down the processes running, compare and contrast, then report back to me. Also run a AV and AS test.

Majora, thanks for stepping in to help. I noticed you're pretty new here. Forgive me for not welcoming you sooner.

have you done anything to the HOSTS file in %root%\System32\Drivers\etc ?

if you delete that file you screw up all sorts of stuff.

also have you messed around with the services under computer managment?

I messed around with some stuff in msconfig, guess I screwed something up =\. Anyway I got it fixed now, I basically did System Restore about 18572104 times until I found the last one before I screwed up my system.

*Perhaps that's why they say "Make a system restore point before messing around here."

    Thanks for the help
