Could I used different brand and capacity in creating RAID?

edited April 2006 in Hardware
Currently, i have seagate 80gb sata with stripe raid.

Im planning to buy a new one with higher capacity; and want to create RAID setup in my HD.

is possible to install and configure these stuffs?

Yes, but the array will default to the size of the smallest drive in the array. If you get a larger drive, anything over 80GB will be wasted.

Not to mention that different access times, platter desities and drive latencies will not mesh as well and give some weird results, not all good. But yes it will work and is very possible to mix and match. The loss of the extra space of using a larger drive would reall be 'ouch'!
