my documents folder...

edited April 2006 in Science & Tech
I’m in the process of trying to get some files off of one of my friend’s laptop hard drive and when I plug it into my usb adaptor and try to access the files, it say that access is denied. I think this is because my friend has a password to get to windows. I’ve tried booting off the windows version in the laptop hard drive but it gets to where I can see the windows XP screen, and then just restarts again. This leads me to believe that windows is corrupted in some way. So I was wondering if I use a windows CD and repair the drive will I lose the information in the My documents folder? Is there any other way to get at this information? thanks

Assuming it's running WinXP, a Repair Install ought to fix you right up with no data loss. :)

Ask your "friend" for the password?

I already know the password, there just isn't any place to put it
