The Original Pancake House - Myths and Lore

First of all, let's get on thing straight, for all you SM LAN first-timers.

The Original Pancake House is NOT IHOP

This is The Original Pancake House (OPH if you prefer)

OPH is to IHOP as Porsche is to Kia. OPH is to IHOP as Alienware is to e-machines. OPH is to IHOP as AMD is to Intel (ouch!)....

The OPH features real food. Everything is handmade, from scratch. They use pure, hand churned, 93 score butter. They offer a custom roasted coffee that is ground on site. The sausage, the bacon, the PANCAKES, the omelettes, everything is wonderful, delightful, and sublime.

The IHOP is a chain place that serves freeze-dried corporate food that is shipped from a central warehouse direct to your dirty plate :hair:

Let's get this straight. There is a major, major difference. Ask any previous LAN attendee :ninja:

OPH IS REQUIRED FOR ALL ATTENDEES.

You don't understand if you haven't supped there. I've seriously contemplated a trip to Detroit just for breakfast because of this place. SUBLIME only begins to describe it. :D

OPH is like nothing I've ever had. Best breakfast place, bar none. The butter is amazing! Just ask prime how much I love their butter.

Meh... I go, so as not to get my knees broken, but it's not all that good. It's one of those places that kind-of over-does the whole 'made from scratch with big portions thing'... The first time I went, I got the chocholate-chip pancakes. There were actually too many chocholate chips. I don't know if they were trying to impress me with their generosity or what, but I couldn't actually taste the pancakes, and I don't really need that much chocolate at breakfast. I tryed to get rid of some, but they were all soft and just got spread around... by the end I had a sick stomach from all the damn chocholate... I would have been happy with 10% of the chocholate. Next time, I ordered the bacon and eggs, and they tasted just like every other order of bacon and eggs that I've ever had. They were also the most expencive bacon and eggs I've ever had.

Just thought I'd let the new guys know that it's not heaven for everyone, maybe just for the people who are into pancakes.

Personally, I prefered 'Prime's Prime Waffle Haus'. :D Those were tasty waffles...

Speaking of one of the members of SM that are of the erm, robust persuasion, I am going to have to call sacrilidge on such comments... You can never have too many chocolate chips on your pancakes... Now if you had a combination of chocolate and peanut butter chips on some pancakes made with peanut butter in the batter, then you'd have the most awesome pancakes ever... I've only had those once at a pancake house in Gatlinburg, TN (which probably holds the record for most pancake houses on a 2 mile strip.)

Hate to break it to you Brian, but OPH is a chain too. There's an OPH in downtown Buffalo with the same goddamn logo and everything. Atmosphere and all.

There's one near us in Cincy as well. It's a franchised chain, which means that quality can vary greatly between the different locations.

Here is a list of locations.

Dude if Brian says its good I'll take his word... He already assured me it is better than IHop which is better than Denny's. For the most part just give me freaking breakfast and make me happy...

You're confused SMJ. I never said that. There's one in Birmingham and Grosse Pointe as well as Southfield. That right there precludes there from being "only one"... And they list all their locations right on their menu :wtf:
