Well I need help.... with one of my builds

I am installing windows media center 2005 "OEM" w/ Server PK2 , all goes well in the install, It is a 2 disk set with a server pk 2 disk. It asks for disk 2 okay it continues.. than it asks for the Server pk 2 disk I put it in the drive and bam

can't find i386. I tired doing a search for the file on the disc but it is a no go. If I hit cancel the program continues to install and when windows boots up it looks like windows 2000 and is missing all it main components like IE explorer and other functions.

I have never seen this before any help is appricated....

It seems pretty clear that you have a dead Service Pack 2 disc.

try making an unattended install cd/dvd...you can use nlite (i think that's what it's called)...

and if you think your sp2 disc is corrupt, download it from MS instead.

The problem was, it wasn't a normal SVPK2 disc... it is some wierd OEM disc.

dell? maybe they have it for download?

have you tried copying the files from your oem sp2 disc to the harddrive first, and then point to them? or to a usb thumbdrive?

or maybe just try an unattended from the 2 discs you already have.

maybe a different optical drive? new ide cable for optical drive?

that's all i can think of right now :)

The problem is a bad server pk 2 disc... The disk won't open on any of my test towers for insatll. I have tested it now on 13 Drives... The disc shows nothing on it. but says the disk is full.

The OEM software was bought at Newegg.com.. and I never buy dells :)

Same problem for me, my solution :
When it ask for service pack 2, i put the install CD 1 on the drive and the installation terminate normally !
    Then :
    1. Windows update in internet
    2. install .net framework 1.1 (dotfix.exe)
    3. Windows update in internet (for .net framework 1.1 sp1)
    4. Put CD service pack 2 MCE 2005, run
    5. Windows update in internet

    And all is OK
